Ersatz Leupolds??

The subject of counterfeit Leupolds comes up every once in a while and I was wondering how one can identify one? Since I’m in the market for a 36x or 45x target model it would be handy to know. Thanks.

Leupold says to get the serial and call it in before buying from an unknown source.

The couple of knock offs I've seen & handled have been lighter in weight, harsher movements, ect. The #1 giveaway is the serial number does not start /have a letter. Leupold gives their scopes a letter in the serial to tell year of manufacture.

I saw some of these at a big Tulsa gunshow a few years back.Another giveaway was that they were selling new 6.5-20 "Leupolds" for $150.00. And some people were buying them!! Amazing.

No more amazing than when my wife and I were at the bus stop waiting to be picked up at the end of a bus tour in New York where people were buying counterfit watches when they had to know that they were fakes!
