Erik Cortina

Thank you sir for presenting an informative and well thought out video about full length sizing. I see all of your points and agree with them. You have spent your time and money to present this to us and I certainly appreciate it. I do however neck size for some of my different guns, my 6PPC is one and it's a play gun I don't compete with it and if I feel one sticky case I have a body die and FL size all of the cases and neck size a few times till I need a little more room. I want all my hunting guns to go boom every time so FL only. What disturbed me about the thread was why people were rude to you after you went to all the trouble to help all of us. It just doesn't make sense to me. I also didn't understand the statement that introduced your message. The person said that your message was very true. A statement can be true 100% or false 100%, it can't be very true. When I hear someone talk about very true it makes me think of some one telling a story by starting off with the statement "this is the honest to goodness truth, I swear to god." thank you Eric

Gspv I know you are right about a custom die. The two calibers I neck size for I've had so long I didn't know you could get a custom die back then. My loads are moderate and generally I neck size twice then full length the third time and try to minimize the working of the brass as best I can with what Ive got.

If you ever get your hands on a FL die that really closely matches your chamber so that it does a minimal, but complete, resize, you’ll never go back to neck sizing. Been there. Done that.

This is true. It is easily accomplished with a custom rifle. Especially if the same reamer or same dimensioned reamer is used. If you don't use the same smith, reamer, or manufacture then buying a die for each rifle is kind of a waste of time. This is where neck sizing is handy.

I used to neck size...A long time ago. When neck sizing I owned 2 rifles of the same caliber. One time about 90 miles from home I tried to chamber a round!!?? Yes, it was my fault but, that has never happened since I started FL sizing. I would really like to use a custom die based on my chamber but, I shoot 'hot' wildcats and fear the barrels won't last very long. Then what would I do with the custom die? So, for now Redding FL bushing dies are working really good for me. Eric, as my dad used to say, "some people would complain if they got hung with a new rope".

If you had your own reamer the next gun would be the same, and all afer that. Matt

DKHunt I think what MMkid is talking about is unique to wildcatters. When they build a gun and pick a wildcat, something new will have come out by the time the barrel is toast and the new barrel will be chambered in something newer and in some way better than the last one. So a custom die and owning a reamer may not be worth the effort.

If you have never been in the wildcat area it is a black hole of varying dimensions. Think about how many different 308 reamer prints are out there? They are all basically the same but different.

We need more of these rants! Can we do one for "Barrel break in"? Also, I heard North Korea were adopting bronze brushes as a military deterrent due to the fact that as soon as they come in contact with a rifle bore it turns into a weapon of mass distruction
