I have been laid up today, post leg surgery, and have had a opportunity to watch quite a few videos.

The two I found really interesting were Eric’s interview #64 and #87 with Frank Green of Bartlien Barrels.

To sum it up in a few short words, Frank’s comments are a superb exercise in common sense as it pertains to the manufacturing of premium barrels.

In particular, I appreciated his comments in the latter part of the second interview concerning the business end of running a manufacturing facility.

I could take everything he said and apply in directly to my business, even though we are in completely different fields that involve skilled personnel doing precision work. Many people who do not own and run a business cannot appreciate everything that goes in to Keeping the business economically sound. His comments on hiring, training, and keeping good craftsman in todays work environment was spot on.

Worth watching.

Wow. Tons of information here.

Watched #64, Excellent - lots of common-sense advice.

Maybe this will put to bed the "barrel break in myth." Maybe this will stop the Hoppe's No 9 bashers.

But quite honestly, most of this is what many old shooters who have shot a lot of precision shooting already have learned. Use a high-quality single piece rod, use a high-quality bore guide, keep the brushes clean, don't let the carbon fouling build up - clean frequently but keep it simple.

I also like the point about not storing a fouled barrel because as most of us know, the carbon attracts moisture. Running a patch of Hoppe's 9 down the bore after a range session or hunt only takes a few minutes. And doing this between full cleaning sessions makes the full cleaning easier and prevents moisture accumulation in the bore.

Thanks for posting.

Thanks for the recommendations.

Oops. Didn't see the date on the OP. Apply it to next time, should it come up.
