Eric/Hornady Redux

I don’t know if this is round two, or what ever. But it is what it is.

From watching these back and fourths, something comes to mind in the form of an old saying.

”The first thing you should do when trying to get out of a hole is to quit digging”.

Jaw on the floor mouth drooling wondering what quin is talking about. Just like a politician dodging a question right in front of him. I’m not saying tuners work but. You can’t argue they do something. That gun could be tuned to shoot the same without the tuner. The real magic would be to tune a rifle with a tuner without changing a load. But Eric is holding that info back so he can win more matches. Brian zolnikov did tests and I think he said that barometric pressure was the leading cause of barrel going out of tune. If Eric would just spill the beans about how to tune he wouldn’t have to defend it so much.

Here's a device that will make spinning your tuner much easier
when doing full revolutions in the heat of battle......I just had too. LOL
I was just working on a rest for the grandson, and one thing led to
another and alcohol was involved and......

The biggest problem is knowing when the rifle has gone out of tune or it's simply the dancing windflags or mirage, for me at least. Thais has been the cause of my either using tuners or not. I guess my ADD or ADHD may also be a factor; not having the patience to see a project through. I've been trying to use them since they came onto the scene but haven't really embraced them. I know full well they work but still - - - -. I have two rifles with and one without currently. My newest barrel wasn't threaded for one :).

Just more clickbait.

Who out there wants a properly documented, single or double blind study on the effect of tuners?

It wouldn't be hard at all to accomplish. I figure 200 rounds would handle it.

Here is what I'd suggest with an F-class bent: (Requires a 3 person research team - Researcher, Shooter, and Test Operator)

Rifle, 284 win F-Open rifle:
1) Researcher develops handload that shoots well in a fully seasoned barrel with Tuner at starting position (to offset speedup), then loads 200 rounds with that load to full F-class match quality.
2) Shooter conducts the tuner testing as described by the tuner maker (small increments, shooting groups at 100 yards). Test Operator and Researcher are not permitted to see results until after step 4.
3) Shooter determines best , worst, and one random setting in the mediocre range, documenting group size difference and group shape. Targets are retained for later analysis.
4) At 600 yards on an electronic target, Shooter shoots 5 shot groups as directed, shooting randomly selected pieces of ammo, but does not know which setting is being used during any given group (tuner covered from view). Test Operator uses a digital random selection tool to determine which of the three settings determined in step 3 to set and keeps records of tuner setting for each group shot. Researcher documents the groups for Mean Radius, Group Size, and Group Shape without knowledge of tuner setting. Atmospheric and velocity are monitored throughout testing. Testing continues until 7 groups of each setting are shot.
5) Researcher correlates the groups shot at 600 yards with the tuner setting used for each group. Shooter, Researcher, and Test Operator evaluate visually the performance of the three settings in reference to each other. Each independently determines Best, Worst, and Mediocre setting
6) Researcher conducts base data analysis of group data to validate best worst and mediocre setting numerically and conducts statistical tests to determine the confidence level of any differences in performance from setting to setting.
7) All raw data and statistical analysis are published (no hidden data, no agenda, just science).

Anybody interested in something like that?

As long as it’s done in a wind tunnel that would be very interesting.

If Litz couldn't do a proper test I knew hornady couldn't. When the top shooters in the world use them hornady damn sure isn't gonna make me change my mind on them... I'd like to see Keith's idea
Litz has had to eat crow since Cortina showed him his test. Hornady simply should stay in their lane and play with their bullets and HOPE to make a better one someday.

This is not politics, I know.

But, demrats tried to pin Mr. T and failed every time.
Now, naysayers are trying to pin Mr. C and are failing every time.

Just accept that EC has a working unit. It works, and he has won with it. He has the proof on paper.
