Eric cortina bolt shroud

No, the shrouds were never meant for Defiance or any other Remington clone action. That's why they are tight or too big because Remington 700's are larger than clones.

We have two different size shrouds now to fit Remington Defiance and some Kelbly actions.
That’s great,,when I ordered shroud I was very specific that it was for defiance deviant long action 284,,,,perhaps no one reads the order.

1/2-13 or 1/2-24, it depends on the action.

My new Classic is 1/2-24, I wasn't expecting that change from my Ruckus and Tenacity.
The LA magnum BF Tenacity I have is 1/2-24. I have an older Deviant and Deviant hunter that are 1/2-13. These all had very slick firing control from day one and while I relieved some areas, I don't think it made one bit of improvement.

One of Defiances stong points is the ignition. Shrouds fit great and most of the time theres little to improve. Great actions. I always said if they made a BR action wed use a lot of them.

What features (or lack thereof) make Defiance actions not desirable for BR rifles?

No coned bolt dual port. Thats what most guys want. They said one was coming but that was when Glen still owned it. I dont know if the new owners will ever do it, I doubt it. They have a remington nose style drop port which works well. But the Remington extractor can be a problem in a drop port. When they work, no problem. But I have had to work on enough of them to get them reliable I tend to stay away from that design.

A Sako or M-16 extractor on the bolt bottom works great, I have converted two of my BR Farley’s to a drop port with these.

However, there is the problem of that extractor having a clear path out the action raceway in the event of a severe case rupture.

I tend to ignore this.

The Bat Neuvo is Offered in Drop Port with a sliding extractor in the lug, which image.jpgwill not allow a clear path for the extractor to exit the action.

Jerry Stiller perfected the Remington Style Extractor in a Drop Port. They worked flawlessly. I am not sore if he used actual Remington Extractors or manufactured them in house.

The problem with a remington style extractor is if its not tuned just right it can put enough side pressure on the rim to prevent the case from dropping. Same problem can happen with a sako or mini 16 if its cut too deep into the bolt. This not an issue with a spring loaded ejector because theres plenty of force to overcome this. But on a drop port the extractor can not push the case against the opposite side of the bolt face recess or it wont drop. Since the remington style can move and they are all a little different they did have a lot of hang ups in matches. Might only hang up once in a while but still a pain. I prefer the sako or mini 16 they are the most reliable.
