ER Shaw rifle barrels

Has anyone here had any experience with these barrels, I would like to know if the quality is good and what to expect as far as accuracy. I thought a 23' 223 barrel in stainless with Helicle fluting and a one in eight twist on a sporter contour might make for a nice walking around varminter/predator rifle on my 700 action.

A friend has one in 223ai and it is very accurate with 75gr a-max's. I think a 9 twist is as fast as they make though.

I have one of their 1/8 barrels on my AR that will occasionally run 1/2 and always 3/4-minute 5-shot groups @100. I don't know how it compares to better custom barrels, but it's much better than any factory tube I've seen.

I'm located just a short distance from Shaw Barrels, and several years ago had a chrome moly barrel chambered in 250 Savage by them. Copper fouling was extreme and accuracy was non-existant. The bore was filled with reamer and tool marks from the throat to the muzzle and had the appearance of a Nicholson file. To their credit when I returned the barrel, I was given a refund check covering the complete cost of the job, and I respect them for that. At their price they cannot be expected to be competitive with Krieger, Hart, and all the other premium hand lapped barrels. A "good" utility barrel.

Nicely put.

I have an ER Shaw barrel in 223ai. I won the barrel last year at our local ground hog match othere than the finish on the barrel it shoots great. The outside of the barrel always has a dirty look to it no matter how many times you wipe it down, ill prolly paint it this winter but other than that the barrels great.

Hillbilly, what kind of group sizes do you get from your er shaw.Afriend has a savage bolt action shotgun with an er shaw and it has won every turkey shoot he has ever been to. I guess that every barrel company makes a few bad ones, however er shaw has been in business for many years and makes barrels for some of the top gun companys. Hmm,might have something there. I know there is alittle prestige in owning a major brand barrel and they do make some of the best barrels like shilen etc. But some shooters just dont have that kind of money so they try the other brand and find out it works.

Jon im gitting anywhere from .25moa to .50moa. It no benchrest barrel but for my long range varmint barrel it works great ive shot out to 860 at an 8 inch gong the farthest ive shot with it was 904 and put it an inch over the hogs head

Hillbilly,
Just checked out ER Shaws site, There threaded, chambered barrels are cheaper than most blanks anywhere else. Might be worth checking into, If I can shoot .25 -.500 on a daily packing coyote gun,may rebarrel my wore out 250 savage.

Bozo,
for a carry all varmint custom I love mine at the time i ordered my barrel they had a machine go down in december by april I had my gun back together shooting now with the shooting season done and about 500 down the tube you wouldnt know cleans up just as nice and easy as my Lilja custom. As I said before the only thing I dont like it the outside finish on my barrel always kinda looks dirty and holds the finger prints, Ive had guys tell me to try Flitz but Im probably just gonna paint mine. Also the customer service was very nice to deal with I think I called to check on finish date two or three times

For what its worth I have a couple Shaw barrels, a 6.5X55 A.I. (1-9 T)and 6mm-284 (1-12 T). both will print sub 1/4" groups at 100 yards. As with all barrels they need to be seasoned properly and yes they will shoot. By the way both are screwed on M98 Mauser actions.

Very interesting, i just got off the phone with ER Shaw this morning, i have a 700 LA just siting around was was thinking about a 280AI just as a hunting rifle something low cost. price they gave me barrel installed and complete blue job $385.00+tax Wow! i may have to give it a try.

Thats about what my total package would of cost me I won the barrel and only had to pay for part of the chamber job and having the barrel put to my action which they squared my lugs and lapped them for no charge. As my long range varmite rig I cant complain! If your looking to build a budget gun its not a bad way to go

I had a stainless one in 243 win. I gave up on it and sold it off for next to nothing. Copper fouled like mad, and never did shoot anything much under an inch. Most attempts were inch and a half to two inch groups. Tried several powders and several different bullet weights and brands.

Very, very rough machining in the bore in mine.

That was the one and only one I've ever tried.

Who are some of these top gun companies?
