ER shaw barrels ?

So are er shaw barrels junk or any good? I know thay are not near as good as shilen .

Most are a decent utility barrel, good for a hunting rifle. None are lapped, so expect reamer tool marks (a lot), that will require a lot of cleaning effort to remove the copper.

Accuracy? Pay your money and keep your fingers crossed. Ask me how I know.

To their credit, they gave me a complete refund for the one barrel that I tried. I have a copy of the cancelled check showing the refund if there are any doubts.

I've used 7 now from them. They are as good if not easier to clean after break in than my shilen. I've got mine from ershaw, not a seller. I love them.

Well its just i dont have ton a ton of money to spend on a custom barrel . Shilen has crome molly match barrels at a fair price iv just seen. .im really thing of getting one in 6mmbr or 243. Only thing about 6 mmbr is components like brass seems hard to find and a bit more expensive than 243. .... for the price of shilen's crome molly match i may get one for my 223 also

Your call. I buy ershaw before something else. I've had nothing but good dealings and good luck with them.
This was the first 15 shots outta my 7-08

This was rounds 31-35

This is my 7 mag load work

This is my 308 Mauser I had them work

cjmac: I wouldn't necessarily decide between a 243 and a 6br just because of the brass cost. The br will give 20 plus firings if you don't hot rod the load along with twice the barrel life of the 243. Also accuracy between the two goes to the 6br as well. I looked up the cost of a ER shaw barrel. Their 240 bucks shipped. Premium custom barrels are 320 bucks shipped. That 80 dollar difference is only a couple boxes of bullets. In the cost to feed the barrel ammo throughout its life that is a pretty negligible amount. I would save up for a premium barrel and have it chambered in 6br. If you have a smith that knows what hes doing then 1/4 moa will be easy. Their are some areas to save money on and a barrel isn't one of them in my opinion. This is just my thoughts on your post. Good luck and keep us updated.

Well all I can tell you is that I've had some really good ER Shaw barrels and some just OK ones. If accuracy is what your after then get a Krieger or Brux . There's some stocking distributors around for what your looking for if you know where to look. Just don't cut corners because of the cost, buy once cry once , atleast you won't make the same mistake twice. Ask me how I know this. If you need help finding things just ask on this forum an any questions you might have ....Good luck on your decision.

Shilen it is for the barrel ...and 6mmbr .... Now the question is , rem 700 or savage mod 10 action ? Found a good deal on a mod 10 . I love to do something different and use a howa 1500. I found one a a good price also.

Cheap an good results are usually not in the same category...........Get the savage or Remington because there will be more custom parts available.

Must have had 3 of them in the last 20 years: a 7mm, a .308 and a .338, all in the medium varmint chrome moly type. The 7 and the .30 are tack drivers, the .338 is almost as good but walks its shots when hot, I should have chosen a heavier contour for this one. They are worth every penny you spend, even if my favorite are PacNor Supermatch 3 groove but it's another budget.

Both of my Er Shaws 1/14" twisted, 24" long .223 varmint barrels print in the sub moa all the time.
I took a chance and bought them both at midway when they were on sale for $139 for the kit, very happy I did and more happy they shot better than a lot of the more expensive barrels.
They both average .450" to .550" and that's perfect for my p-dogging.

For around $20 extra you can order your Shilen chrome moly barrel lapped and it is well worth it. You will spend more than that on cleaning supplies for a unlapped barrel.

I can almost guerantee you if you buy a Shilen Select match 6BR you will shoot 1/4 moa at 200 yards I have shot them and shot one out at 2500 rounds I have a new one and have won two 200 yard matches, using 105 berger hybrid and 28.2 varget, shilen runs a little slower than others their tighter

Radar: I had a Shilen chrome moly hand-lapped several years ago and the extra charge at that time was $45.

Turned out to be one of my most accurate and easiest to clean. Well worth the extra cost.

FWIW, had Shaw make a 1 in 9 twist 6.5x55 Swede heavy magnum contour chromemoly barrel threaded for a Stevens 200 a couple of years ago. With right load and etc., 3/8 - 1/2" 100 yd groups possible. But expect around 3/4" most of time. Copper fouling is not bad in my barrel. My only complaint about Shaw was it took over 20 wks to get the barrel....I was told 12 to 16wks max delivery when I ordered it. Mind you, this was a couple of years ago.

Do not be penny wise and pound foolish.

Build a 6 BR. You might spend a bit more on the brass, but you can load it many, many times. You will also have better barrel life with the 6 BR.

Use a premium barrel. Use either Remington or Savage. It is little known, but you can get prefit barrels for either.

You can save money by using a prefit and doing the bedding yourself.

The below was shot with a 6 BR. In a match. 100 yards. No windflags, no sighters, grip and rip. That is an 8-1/2x11" total target.

You, too, can do this. Easy-peasy.
