Equivalent Scope to a NF SHV ?.

Agreed Hoz53, but in the OP you asked what compares in quality and durability with the NF SHV and thats in the $1000.00 price range. SWFA usually does a sale for black friday and you could usually get the 5-20x50 HD SWFA in the $1000.00 dollar range and the 3-15x42 for about $600.00 and maybe so free rings and or sun shade.I wasn't putting down the 3-15x42 at all In my opinion its better than any of the other scopes listed except for maybe in the area of glass compared to the NF SHV. As far as durability I would give it to the SWFA. I was just pointing out that the 5-20x50 HD is great glass and can be had at a $1000.00 price point if bought at the right time ands its leaps and bounds better than the others listed in both durability,quality and glass. And better glass and more durable than the NF SHV and Quality on par with it.Hope this helps clarify what I was trying to say. I have 4 NF ATACR's and a NF COMP MATCH and I have 4 SWFA 5-20x50 and 2 SWFA 3-15x42 and never feel underscored when using the SWFA's. The only thing is there are no zero stops but they can be made easily. The other thing is the SWFA are all FFP, so for second SFP lovers your out of luck, but I really love the Reticle so muck so I would love to have it on my NF ATACR's. Hope this helps.

I don’t have any places around here that have any of these optics we discussed in stock so kind of hard for me to compare. Mabie I’ll just have to buy a few

That is the whole thing for me. We spend our 1000 bucks and just take our chances. Even with a good warranty — I don’t want to use a warranty I don’t want them to break to begin with.

If any of you guys get the chance to play with a Athlon Ares ETR 4.5-30x56 you will walk away very impressed!

Heck the Midas TAC series is really nice and the 4-16x40 is less than $600. I've had 6 SWFA's, three of them 3-15x42's, still own one, the Midas TAC is superior and the ETR is a grade up from the TAC.

I like those numbers anyway 4.5-30.

Just personal experience with what myself, friends, and other shooters I've shot around with using the scopes listed above, and seeing scopes fail and break, turrets coming off in your hand , glass quality side by side comparisons with multiple people looking. Box tests. No I don't have a scope tester but I am looking for a frozen scope, before I buy one.Also seeing the problems others have . Nothing scientific just my experience I have had , but thats my opinion and experiences and everyone has their own. Which is pretty much what everyone of the above post are so far, that posters opinion and or experience.

True. But you don't have to stop testing scopes after the first time. How long a scope will last i's unknown. I have old Japanese Tasco scopes from the 70's that still function and perform very well. Then I've had a brand new Athlon shit the bed on the first trip to the range.

Thats the bad part of everything going internet/mail order, there are hardly any places to put your hands on the merchandise, especially when your putting out this kind of money. If you haven't seen and handled one someone else has its hard to pluck down the cash. I went through that the first time I pulled the trigger on an SWFA, it took me 2 years before I finally took a chance and I have never been sorry for it. But it is hard and when you do find a store front that has scope they usually only have one or two brands out of the 6-7 you would like to compare.

I like old Japanese made scopes, I have quite a few myself including a few old Tasco's, and Bauch& Lomb's, one of my favorites are the Belvar 8's I have both set in Beuller Micro-Dial bases and rings on M 70's.

The Delta 5-50x56 is solid as any scope I've ever seen. Everything about it is top quality. I've been shooting it on a 300 Norma Magnum Improved with 88-90 grains of powder behind 230gr bullets. Not much recoil due to the rifle weighing 27 lbs and excellent performance from my Area 419 Sidewinder muzzle brake, but it's a LOT of concussive muzzle blast. Scope is holding up great.

Yeah there's no US dealers for Delta yet. I bought mine from Optics-trade.eu (Slovenia). No issues with importing. But like I said, the Trijicon Accupower are basically the same scopes in different clothing

FYI, I've had 5 SWFA scopes, a 16x fixed, a 20x fixed, and three 3-15x42 FFP.

The parallax knob came off in my friends hand with one of those 3-15's.
The other two run out of focus past 600Y, on infinity setting at 700Y it's not in focus anymore. The glass on all of them isn't great. I was using the only one I have left just last weekend. But they do track well.

The quality of the less expensive Talos non BTR models aren't the best. I have one, the 4-16x40, on my coyote rig, but it has been working fine.

I am affiliated with Athlon, though I don't work for them. That being said between my friends and I we've only had a few scopes go down in about 30 of them in different models.

I've had no problems with the six Talos 4-14x44's, four Argos BTR 6-24's, the Ares -both the 2.5-15 and the 4.5-27, a Midas TAC 4-16, and two Cronus BTR's.

All I'm saying is there is no perfect scope...

sightron 6x24x50. they are great scopes and very clear. I now have 5 of them. by looking around and not getting in a hurry I got them all for $600 each. I live in Oregon and leupolds are junk and on there new ones we cant get them to track right and at low light you cant see very good with them if at all. no problems with sightrons.

Thanks for your review of the Sightron scopes, now that there coming out with the zero stop it looks really good. I saw a good picture of it on another site. Stop looks a lot like a screw collar on a reloading die. Set your zero and then screw the stop up against the turret and tighten the set screw in the collar.
