Entry PRS Build- which 6mm?

In the process of building a PRS style rifle. Will be using a Rem 700 LH action, remage barrel setup, and PDC chassis stock. PRS is just starting in my neck of the woods, and I am considering giving it a try (plus I always wanted a 700, so even if I don't take up PRS I'll still have a cool gun).

I've pretty much decided on some form of 6mm based on research and current trends. Action has .473 bolt head, and cartridge must feed from AICS mags and cycle reliability.

The 6BR is most interesting to me, but I am concerned with it's suitability as a repeater in this action, since I've read reports that it tends to not work well in a stock 700 action due to ejection issues.

Next option would be the 6 Creedmoor, which is which is about 80% how I'm leaning right now, seems to be the best of all worlds for what I'm looking to do.

Last option I can think of is 243 Win, run of the mill, not sure there is really any benefit over just going to 6 creedmoor though, looks like brass and dies are about the same $, obviously bullets will cost the same, and no price advantage from a barrel standpoint.

Any suggestions based on my thoughts?

Also, if I go 6CM any thoughts on twist? it seems 1:8 is the general consensus. However, most of my shooting will be done at shorter ranges, so lighter bullets and a little slower twist might be a better idea. My thinking at this point is basically a 600 yard gun, although 90% of my shooting will be 100-200 yards.

6X47 or 6 CM Lapua is what most of those guys shoot. Google "PRS What the Pros use>"
By 6CM do you mean,
6 Competition Match (correct 6CM) based on 243 commonly runs h1000 powder and gets good barrel life
Or 6 Ceedmoor?

Secondly does your local PRS have the 3100fps rule? If not extra speed is less drop

I run 6Br and Dasher. 6 Creedmoor is a barrel cooker, no thanks. I think 6x47 is a better option than 6Creed. That said, 6.5x47 would be my recommendation. If you cant hit it with a 6.5, a 6mm ain't gonna help. Easy to load for, great feeding, barrel and brass life are excellent too. Probably the best shooter of this year, shot 6.5x47 reloaded on a Dillon 550. Keep it simple. If you get bit by the bug, then the sky is the limit.

I meant 6 Creedmoor. I don't shoot PRS but I do read up on what they use. As a result I built a 6 X 47 Lapua for my wife as a deer rifle.

I like the 6.5x47 for PRS. That said I also have a 6 Creedmoor that I like.

I had a 6XC that I shouldn’t have parted with. It was the easiest rifle I’ve ever owned to tune. It would shoot anything I put in it.

I'm a 6mm Competition Match shooter. I don't mind fire forming. I also have a barrel just for that.

This would be my choices if not the 6CM
1st straight .243 with H1000 , IMR7828ssc
2nd 6SLR, run the .243 brass thru the die, H1000, IMR7828ssc.

I'm just getting into PRS but I love my 6 creedmoor its a 700 rem action 28in criterion 1-8 tw and its a hammer. 40.8gr RL16 pushes 105 hybrid 3160fps with an es10 and SD of 4.I use hornady and lapua srp brass.
Hornady is cheaper in case u lose a few at matches.Lapua is better quality but at 100yds I can't tell any difference in group size. Just my 2 cents good luck with your build.

So between 6BR, 6 Creedmoor, and 243 for PRS I think 6 Creedmoor would be best. If you're loading the heavy bullets (110-115gr) mag length can be an issue with the 243.

6 Creedmoor and 243 Win will have a shorter barrel life than some other options, but with the Remage set up they're easily replaced for $250-350. Anything in the 7"-8" twist should work for you.

I just put a Criterion barrel in 243 Win with 7" twist on a Remington using the Remage nut. Haven't shot it yet but am working on loads with the 110gr Sierra Match King. Already I'm having to overcome some issues with OAL and feeding from a detachable mag.

No mag length issues running a 6 Creedmoor with the 105’s...no experience with the 110’s.

I've shot every case mentioned, I'd rock the XC, you can get the speed and accuracy of the bigger cases with less recoil, or comparable to the 6x47.

I've shot Hornady 105gr BTHPs in 243 Win without OAL length being am issue with mags, the 110 and 115 gr bullets ata a lot longer!

If you get hooked on PRS you will go through barrels faster than expected, regardless of caliber choice. Lots of practice will make you better than any particular choice in caliber, so once again barrel life becomes a factor unless you have lots of $$ to throw at barrels.

My suggestions are 6mmBR, 6 Dasher, 223 Rem, or 6.5.x47... There's a lot to like about the inherent accuracy of the 6BR, 6Dasher, and the x47, as well as how easy they are to keep in tune. You're looking at 600+ rounds of additional barrel life verses a 6 Creedmoor with any of these and not constantly chasing 'the node'/throat erosion to stay in tune. The Dashers are doing pretty amazing things in 1000 yard benchrest.

Last years data on 'What the Pro's Use' may show a trend towards 6mm's, but the 6.5x47 Lapua was still the dominant Cartridge used by the top 100 shooters. Pretty sure when the 2017 season data comes out there is going to be a huge shift towards the 6mm Dasher. The trend was noticeable at the matches this year.

I currently shoot 6.5x47 in PRS and will continue to do so for at least another season. PRS is a game of recoil management and I think learning to manage the recoil of a 6.5 before downsizing to 6mm may be beneficial in the long run.

Regarding Barrel Twist: Depends a bit on elevation where you shoot, but for 6mm I'd suggest 7.0 - 7.5, giving you the option to go with the heavier class bullets (thinking 110 Sierra, 115 Dtacs). 1:8 should be fine for 6.5x47.

6x47L here,

The 6mm competition match does have my interest. But the x47 has been really easy to tune, no fire forming neck it down and go.

6mm fatrat would be my choice with no recoil 100-200 yards.
Anything over that would be 6 cm or dasher.

These guns work great for me.
