Check out e-bay, they had some Bausch & Lomb 15 to 60 power Discoverer scopes for very reasonable prices. I've used one of these for many years, top notch quality. Too big for a horse back elk hunt or sheep hunt but for range use out standing. We tried to do a very un-scientific comparison to a new Pentax, or old eyes couldn't see a difference. Check it out, some were in the $75 range.

they are known for great optics to view the planets and stars so it is easy for them to make spotting scopes
