Enough Clearance over barrell

I just received my new Sightron and wanted to get thoughts on if I have enough clearance. I know I cant fit the Sightron end cap over the bell as it hits the barrell. I know the barrell will move ever so slightly as well. Thoughts?

I always figured if you see daylight you have enough clearance! When I had this problem I cut some of the lens cap off so it would go on.

It would be interesting to know if the bell contacts the barrel during firing, due to barrel flex. I suppose you can't know unless you capture the scene during high-speed photography, or if you put something -- like machinists use to find out if parts are in contact -- on either one and then see if it transfers to the other after firing.

I'd be a bit leery of such little clearance, were it my rig; I think 1/8" is just about perfect, and that appears to be 1/16"?

Looks fine to me. If the barrel flexes enough to touch the scope, something is loose! Trim the scope cap in you wish.

Just my opinion, but too little clearance for me. Just had a similar experience with a newly acquired scope, did a dry run with the medium Burris Signature Zee rings & had about the same clearance as you. Tried to fit the Sinclair neoprene lens cover over the objective & it would not fit. Am switching to the high rings.

One important consideration for me is the ability to quickly cover the objective lens before cleaning to prevent the splatter from the exiting brush, especially at the range if there is any wind.

If your barrel flexes enough that close to the breach to touch your scope when fired, it is made out of string cheese. BTW, what rings are those? Low weaver rings? What base?

I think I will leave it the way it is. I trimmed the cap and it fits nicely. The rings aremWeaver Lows and it is an EGW base.

Thanks

I think your clearance is okay. I had a set up that actually had a little less clearance than yours, but it made me a bit nervous so in the end I went with higher rings. For me I draw the line at about what you have .

The barrel will move very little that close to the action. The scope tube itself will probably flex more than the barrel. And even with that said I wouldn't worry about it at all. Just shoot it. I have mounted some with less clearance than that with no problems.

Thanks guys. I am keeping it the way it is after I shot it this weekend.

Started out at 50 yards, first shot about 11" high and 3" right, adjust and next shot 1" high and 1" right. Move out to 100 and good to go after 3 shots. Next move is taking target from 100 yds to 500 yds. Looked at my "shooter" app for my dope and squeeze off 2 shots. Cool thing about this scope is seeing bullets holes at 500 yards. Haha. Not used to that. Both shots were about 1" low and to the right due to the wind. I could not believe it. I actually started laughing a little because it really surprised me. So, I will keep it where it sets.
