Emergency Scope Purchase

Well boys,

I am going to go to TX to shoot predators at night next month.

My CZ.204 is the rifle that I am going to take....

What would be your scope of choice?

Please remember I will be using this scope only at night.

Whatever it is, get something with the fast focus. After dark, crank it down about 2 diopters. You'll be amazed at how much better you can see.

I've been really happy with the Zeiss Conquests. How much have you budgeted? Maybe the Zeiss 3-12x56. If the budget is wide open, an S&B 2.5-10x56 is great after the sun goes down.

I have a Zeiss 3-12X56 Deavirie,sp?) and if there is a little moon and I am hunting over a field for deer it can get you in trouble quick. With a spot light I can tell you that it would be a good scope with that #8 cross hair. The Conquest line is just about as good and 1/3 the price. The Meopta Meostar 3-12X56 is also a good scope for a little less than the Conquest.

That would be a great choice as far as I'm concerned, I think they build som of the best in the business. The one I was going to recomm was a Schmidt and Bender but you picked a good scope.

I shoot the leupold illuminated models. 3.5-10 and 4.5-14. They work great and you will be able to get on your animal much faster when you dont have to "look" for the crosshairs.

I wouldn't go with the NF since it doesn't have the fast focus. I know it doesn't make a lot of sense, but take a scope out in near dark lighting and try it. Even with the illumation turned off, I could make out the reticle in my S&B just fine. It has something to do with the fact that only the rods in your eyes are picking up the light and you need to change the diopter for that situation.

I also wouldn't go with a super low-power scope unless I had another use for it. I've been much happier since I started using the bottom end of the mag range as my limiting factor for scope purchases. Most of my scopes now start at 6X and I've yet to find myself griping that I have too much magnification.

If you can afford a NF i guess you can afford one of the brighter zeiss or swaro scopes. That said I use conquests up north for night coyote hunting and a moon often gives enough light to operate in if you adjust your diopter like already suggested. With a spotlight you will be golden and the reticle in the conquests either z plex or #4 will show up well for low light viewing. Good Hunting!
