Eliseo F Open Chassis

I'm sitting in the deer blind with an eliseo chassis as I type this... i don't have an f class chassis, but I wouldnt think twice on it if thats what you like. Only con I find with these chassis are they are a bit heavy. Other than that, they are absolutely solid. Ill be buying another for another build as soon as I can fund it.. They are the only chassis I like, period..

I have been using his chassis for the last 3 years since I switched to F open from FTR. I have a v block version for a savage target action not the barrel block. I have used a straight .284 and a shehane, it works fine I won a state championship with it and weaseled into a few top fives at the SWNs.
Pros: It seems pretty insensitive to gun handling. And tracks and shoots great.
Downsides are: 1.) The finish lots of sharp edges to bust your hands up on while cleaning.
2.) The weight you have to keep it at 30-31 inches on the barrel to make the limit depending on scope and action. I am running a stock savage target action and siii 10-50 with a 30 inch barrel and it is about 1/2 lbs under the limit.

I am unclear about how the action mounts in the chassis (I also have a Savage). The article in Accurate Shooter indicates that you epoxy the barrel to the block, mount the block and the action floats. Looking on the website it appears that the action is mounted with the action screws.
Would you send me some pictures the next time you pull the action out of the chassis.
I will PM you my phone#

He offers 2 mounting solutions one a glue in barrel block so the action floats. And 2 a standard v-block that uses the action screws to fix the action to the chassis by pulling the action into the v.

You can also convert the Eliseo Long Range version to an Open configuration (or FTR). I shoot Eliseo Stocks in TR, but they can be easily adapted to FClass with a barrel change and a Bag rider instead of a pic rail. Another Eliseo option vs. his dedicated F1 stock. Here is one option for a bag rider (which is my suggestion), but since you mention Savage action, here is my Eliseo/Savage 223 converted to 6brx for fun. The blue one is a 6brx with a Borden action. Shot a 200-13X State record the first time at 1000bluebrx.jpg20161223_155113_001.jpg

This is good to know- since I'm on the list for a chassis sometime in December.

Hope I have the strength to get a plain grey color. Not some outlandish crazy Emerald Green or Candy Apple Red or some such craziness. But.....

I am still on the bubble....

What is the lead time on a chassis from him?

Anyone using an Eliseo F Open Chassis?

How do you like it, Pros, Cons.

Thanks

John
This is mine. It is actually Marine Corp. red, the iPhone morphed it into some other color. I shot it this weekend at the California State Long Range Championship and tied for the win but got out X'd. It's the truest, straightest, best tracking stock out there.IMG_7031.jpeg

I do and find it a great chassis for an F-Open rifle. Mine is using a Barnard Action in 7 RSAUM. It took some finessing to get it the way I wanted it, but I'm shooting in the 590's now with it at 1,000 yards. I also found Gary Eliso to be very helpful when there are questions or your having problems getting ti set up right. I recommend it.

Swap meet buyer of an original Tubegun stocked 6BR rifle in Phoenix.

The gun I bought has a Remington 700 action, and a barrel that is thinner than I’d like.

I have not opted to take this gun apart. I have a suspicion that tube guns may not use recoil lugs, and therefore my new barrels chambered for 700’s with a standard recoil lug aren’t going to work.

Does anyone know if this is correct? I’d sure love to think I could clamp this barrel, break it loose and turn on a new one, with the rifle just as it is.

Most of the Eliseo chassis guns use a recoil 'disc'.
The Savage actions use a recoil 'cup'.
Barnard actions don't use either, and the back end of the action bottoms out in the tube.

If you remove the action screws in the chassis (loosen the set screws too), you can slide the barreled action out of the chassis. The recoil disc will be evident -it might just measure up to what you want/need for the other barrels.

If not, I would think a decent machine shop could make a disk in any thickness you would like pretty easily.
Gary (Eliseo) is super helpful as well -he would probably make the disk for you as well, to your specifications.
It is just a piece of DOM tubing, turned/ground to a thickness.

Hope this is useful,

Frank

My first F-Class rifle is a 6BR Eliseo R1 tube gun I converted for F-Class. Purchased it here on Accurate Shooter. It's won me several mid range matches and a pending national mid range record.

I also just recently got one of Gary's F1 Chassis that I chambered 7-6.5 PRC . The action bedding block is custom machined by Gary to the action of your choice. Omar Alonzo lapped the bedding block to knock down some very subtle high spots and then skim-bedded the action to the bedding block. Omar also chambers my barrels. This rifle shoots and tracks awesome! I've shot my share of cleans @ 1000 yds. , won and runnered-up at local 600 yd and 1000 yd matches with it. On a bad day I can still look cool on the firing line, (lol). The only possible "con" I have is that the rifle is a few ounces too heavy with my March Majesta and Bat M stainless action, hence the 10-60 High Master. Gary is currently building me another F1 chassis that's going to run a Bat Neuvo aluminum action to help keep the rifle weight F-Class legal with a Majesta and have a few ounces to spare.

This is my other Eliseo rifle. Borden ‘Tube Gun Action’ (integral circular recoil lug) that I converted from a sling rifle to F-Class. Shoots cleans, wins matches…when I do my part. I added a stabilizer bracket on the front of the bag rider/shoulder stock so it’s rock solid in the rear bag now.
