Eley Match - Supersonic

OP, your 20" barrel is likely the culprit for a higher speed than Eley indicates. Their ammo is tested in 26" barrels (when I last inquired), where the bullet had about 10" to slow down from max. speed (about 16"). I have seen numerous 20" and less barrels produce supersonic muzzle velocity, especially if already close to SOS and on a warm day. With short barrels I would try some Eley that has factory stated velocities in the 1040's -1050's.
Unfortunately I'm stuck with the ammo I can get and while l can look for lower velocity rated Eley I really have to take whatever is available. I will definitely take your advice and get lower velocity rated if I have the option.

The .22LR Pro Shot Micro Polished one piece stainless steel measures .202" (5.13mm) in diameter. The CIP spec CZ bore size is larger as is shown in the CZ produced chart below. (5.38mm is .212").

The ejector on CZ bolt rimfires often interferes with .22LR cleaning rods.

Of course many shooters prefer to use .20 cleaning rods which avoid the ejector.

My apologies I don't know why I didn't bother measuring before I just did mine and you are correct.

Perhaps wrong assumption, my reply to the poster was based on not reading he tuned but rather tested lots.

my rifles are tuned at 50 and if the shoots at 50 it will also at 100.

I wish it was that simple but my lot tested ammo shot very well at 50 but tosses low right fliers between 50 and 100. This was in Lapuas test tunnel, where we watched the same exact rounds of ammo perform the best group at 50 and one of the worst groups at 100. I didn’t need 100y 22 ammo so I bought it without regret.

David, for me any lot that did 12mm or better at 50 also did well at 100. what did the lot you got do at 50?

I half-lied - the lot that shot tightest at 50m (10@14.4mm outside-to-outside) was a mess at 100 (64.8mm). The lot I bought did 14.6mm at 50m and 22.16mm at 100m. The former was Midas+ and the latter was Center-X, so I was able to afford two cases of that Center-X vs. one case of that Midas+.

I'd love to play under 12mm but it's an older Anschutz that came with a spray painted barrel. It is accurate but not truly match accurate, but for $1100 I couldn't let it get away. This spring I hope to build something still more accurate. Maybe I'll catch some luck in the ammo testing world and there will be a fresh shipment when I get my turn.

I sold a 1413 with a factory barrel at Lapua's Mesa center it produced a 11.86mm group with my base lot for that rifle CX
I didn't intend to test that rifle looking for lots, but just wanted to see how it would do in the tunnel. as you can see I had a tuner on the rifle, if you got 14.6mm and 22.16,mm bare barrel that is still pretty good.
FYI, I kept the barrel like all my other rifles well-scrubbed and run patches while shooting every 40-50 rds.

USMCDOC, what setup are you running with those targets. I have a vostok cm2 with a harrel tuner and a 36x b&l that shoots almost identical if I don't blow a wind call. I use rws r50 for it almost exclusively except for federal um22

Stiller 2500X Shilen Ratchet barrel Harrell's tuner, it is in a made for Joe Chacon stock (i forget the guy's name that makes them for him), but i don't really care for it. Randy Owens is making me one for it. Should have it in about a month or so.

I have a Turbo V-2 that shoots just as good as the Stiller, I am going to put it up for sale, don't see a reason to keep it.

Finally got it sorted and shot a long range rimfire match. He is my 200m (219 yard) 10 shot group with the Eley Match from prone with bipod. Wind was tricky but managed to put 10 rounds into about a 3 1/4inch group (so under 1.5 MOA). V Bull is 3" in diameter.

It seems the fact the ammo is going supersonic doesn't matter at all. It's one of the best 200 meter groups I've fired with this rifle. I'll be grabbing some more Eley Match this week.

Thanks for that - I looked at the website and I'd really prefer one that screwed on to the muzzle thread rather than a press fit held in place with a lock screw. Apparently they are bringing out a threaded one so I'll keep an eye out.
The tuner is slip fit and held in place with a clamping action, not a set screw.

The actual tuner is screw threaded, but maybe that carbon fibre extension piece isn't.
I have the Lowey tuner screwed onto my CZ457 (1/2 x 28 threading).
Fairly sure they do a 1/2 x 20 thread too.

Not sure how the carbon fibre tube is attached to the tuner (bonded maybe), but that tuner (on the right in the pic above) is a clamp-fit. I can see the screws.

Position/Prone shooters like a clamp-fit, either with an indexing ring or peg, for simplicity and precise foresight relocation.

Thanks Tim, now you point it out I can see those 2 wee screws.
Seems that Lowey has all the methods covered (clamped or threaded).
