Electric Line Conditioner/Purifier

What's a recommended multi outlet line conditioner for my scales? Thanks all, Brian.

Another "it depends" answer....

If you live where the risk from storms or bad behavior from the utility is common, then you want to consider spike/surge protection as well as filtering.

A basic RFI/EMI noise filter can be very cheap or cost more depending on the level of protection and the quality of the filters. Just punch in EMI/RFI multi-outlet in your search bar and take your pick. Here are examples of cheap ones.

How much you spend, depends on how bad your risks run. The more filter performance you need, the more you will spend.

If you just need to clean up AC noise, any UPS (uninterruptible power supply) will typically filter and power your scales. When it matters, you run on the battery and the rest of the time you just leave the source line on to keep warmed up.

Pick the one with the run time you want. The more powder and longer time you need to run on clean power, the more they cost.

Another inexpensive way to solve a line noise problem, is to use a common battery power pack and run the scale on DC voltage from this battery. These units have become cheap commodities, and you can find them everywhere or on Amazon if you live in the woods. Many of us run our powder dispensers at the range while on these battery packs. It only requires your scale to have a DC power input jack.

I have been running this one for a couple of seasons after learning about it on this forum. It runs ChargeMaster or AutoTrickler at the range for several days. It has a cable with the DC jack that runs the CM right out of the box.

When my scale went wonky this board offered advice that worked. I did three things, one of which was install a line conditioner. I overthought it on Amazon reviews and Youtube videos. Finally settled on a Tripp Lite kinda like the above but I think mine set me back $100-$120. Probably got more than I need. I think moving the regular cheap splitters on my bench further away from the scale and cleaning the stray powder kernels under the plate probably did more to help but who knows. Works perfect now though.

I ordered a Tripp-Lite. Really wasn't concerned to much with cost. I want to protect my scales and have them work at their best. Thanks all for your input. Brian.

Slightly off topic....In the mid 90's, the institution where I worked were having issues with data projectors failing. Power supplies were getting totaled.

Some bright spark fitted line conditioners/filters of some ilk...but the failures continued and the manufacturer was brought in. There was scratching of heads for quite a while, until some bright spark suggested that the mains voltage be monitored for a week or two. We are a 220 volt, nominally, country.

There turned out to be 2 issues. The voltage had a habit of dropping to 200-205 volts during the day. The manufacturer had decided that all areas that are not 110v are 230-240v areas, more like the UK - and as a result had made the automatic switching/sensing power supplies accordingly.

So - when our power went below a threshold of say, 202v - the power supply switched to a lower preset - 110v- and blew up.

Yup. Most of society has no idea what goes into the standards or their basic utilities. Things like electricity, water and sewar get less respect than the farmers that feed them.
