ELD-X vs AccuBond Long Range 300WIN?

I am looking at a new load for my 300WIN now that I have married into a ranch in central Montana where elk hunting can take place from 50 yds to 700 yds. I have been loading 180gr Nosler Partitions for elk for years because most of my hunting was done in thick timber and had few shots over 200 yds. Now I am looking for a long range load that can still penetrate well at 700 yds while being highly accurate. I am contemplating between the 200gr AccuBond LR or the 190gr ELD-X.

Thoughts or experiences with either or both rounds are much appreciated!

Depending on your twist rate I would also consider the Berger 215 Hybrid. It is a fantastic bullet for elk.

Mariried into, joined Yesterday, and your syntax is a hair off

The Accubonds should hold together better on your closer, higher velocity impacts. The Hornadys are not bonded and could come apart and have less consistent terminal performance... operative word, could. Some may chime in about BCs between the two but since you could potentially take 700yd shots, you shouldnt be pulling the trigger unless you’re certain of your dope and wind call. Know your dope for the given conditions/range and make sound wind calls; either bullet should perform well enough. Also, try both and shoot what your rifle likes best.

Don't discount the partition at distance either. They can be very accurate as well. Several of my rifles shoot them well at 600 yards and beyond. See what your rifle likes.

I've never been able to get the NLRAB to shoot well in anything. Like others have said, I would go with a 215 Berger and somewhere between 74-77gr of H1000.

^^Good advice.

70-71.5gr of IMR 7828 SSC also works great with the 215 Hybrid.
I do not have a high opinion of the NLRAB.

If you want one load for all distances, I'd go with the 200gr regular AB. I've had great luck with them including elk.

I shoot ELD-X in my 338 Edge, and it did well on elk, but I would not select the ELD-X for closer shots on something as large as an elk. So if you may end up with a mix of shots including 100 yard possibility, I'd do the Accubond.

Why wouldn’t you use the eldx for closer shots?

I have not been impressed with the accubond. Shot a 100# doe thru the lungs at 25 yds using a 130 gr out of a 270 wby at over 3300fps and she kept running without any reaction to the shot. Small exit and only blood was from breathing. A non lung shot and I would hav e to get the tracking dog.

It is not a bonded bullet. It will not hold together like an Accubond. I have seen a deer shot with the Accubond at ~120 yards with a 200gr Accubond out of a 300WM and the hunter took a terrible, rear end shot and the bullet held together and penetrated all the way into the chest.

The ELD-X is more or less an AMAX updated with the new tip plastic. I have read performance reports on game on other forums and indeed within 250 yards the ELD will fragment rather well with jacket separation. This is NOT my personal experience with the Accubond.

And for those speaking poorly of the LR AB, I have no experience with it, I'm speaking to the standard AB.

Jump the nosler long range accubonds .100 they are easy to tune & this bullet will not grenade like some target bullets, nothing against berger but for hunting very messy.
just dropped a buck with 300RUM 190LRAB head on-very impressed with the performance on game.

the one thing with the LRAB some guns may not have enough twist rate since they are long, had some 190's keyhole out of a 30-06 so will give the new 168's a try there.
have had great success with 190's out of 300RUM 1/10tw,308 11.25 tw & 142's out of 6.5 1/8tw.

the LRAB's are my short & long range hunting bullet!

You will need the "hunting" Berger bullets. My hunting buddy's and myself use Berger's but we all use 7mm's. they kill quick, no tracking.
