ELD X reloads and the powder column

Hey guys,

Has anyone had to reduce there powder charges to the point of ridiculousness given that the eld x bullets need to be seated deeper than a traditional bullet? I'm looking to load these, but i'm concerned about their intrusion into the powder column.

I shoot the 143 eldx in my 6five creedmoor
Running @ 2728 av fps.
I found them to seat a little deep in my case due to magazine restrictions.
They shoot great though.

Seems like you should be under the 2.9" OAL and be just where you want to be with the bullet in the case yet still fit it in the magazine.

Just loaded some tonight at 2.815 in the 6.5 CM and didn't feel that I was too out of line. Magazine restriction will get you long before the chamber and throat will.

2.8315is what I'm running
mag length is 2.8325.
I windowed a magazine to play around with longer coal, but had a few feeding issues.
Cant single load, has to be fed from magazine.

Not sure what my mag length will be. I’m having a 7mm built by Apr rifles. They use Hawkins dbm. I’ll be loading the 162 eld x. I was worried about reduced charge weights or compressed loads.

With LA DBM you will be fine with 162s. You should be able to load them too max length for the 162. No worries about compressed loads or not getting full case capacity benefit. Pretty sure you won't even make max COAL for the magazine.

Oh ok it's a LA
No that was a typo 2.8325 mag length 15505494144376009064432414752056.jpg
Picture of windowed mag for information sake.
By changing bullet design to more of a hybrid it gets me closer to touch.15505498180261702946339851606262.jpg
136 gr lapua scenar L on the left, 143 eldx on right. You can see how the hybrid design of scenar has the ogive farther forward.1550550216934821108058778352008.jpg
Case intrusion comparison. The 143 is well below body shoulder junction it definitely crunches the Rl26, whereas the scenar loaded with varget has more wiggle room.
Now look at bearing surface of the 2 different bullets. Eldx even with the secant ogive has way more bearing surface.

Thought I'd throw a 140 berger vld up also.
136 scenar on left, 140 vld on right

Oh ok. That's a magazine i haven't seen before. Running mine at 2.975 in an accurate mag. Figured Ruger would give a little more room. Those Scenars shot phenomenally well in my 6.5 cartridges. Can't remember what my OAL was with them tho. Haven't shot them in years. The amax have been my go too bullets besides the Berger's. Much cheaper and they shoot well also.
