ejector spring question

I have a rem 700 in 17 fireball. The ejector spring is so strong that it dents the side of the case neck when I eject a round. It slams real hard on the inside of the action when it clears the chamber. Since I only shoot as a single shot, I took the ejector out but that made it real hard to pull the case off the bolt. Any suggestions on a weaker ejector spring. Thanks

Cut a coil off the spring until it just throws the case out of the action

I've used a BIC lighter spring and it works. Then you still have the original spring without ordering and waiting for another if you change your mind or want to sell your rifle.

I think I’ve got. After spending the first ½ hour tearing apart all of the pens an lighters in the house , I couldn’t find a spring that would fit. After spending the next ½ hour looking for the original spring that shot across the room when it slipped out of my hand while taking it apart I was able to cut 3 coils off and get it back in the bolt. It worked out perfect. No more dented necks. Thank guys, I do appreciate your help.

I put the bolt nose in a plastic baggie so it catches the spring and ejector. -Al

I cut the spring off to be the length where when it is inserted in the bolt head, it is level with the bolt nose. This will put the case falling at your right foot on a hunting rifle or laying on the bench for an informal bench gun.
