Effect of a supressor on accuracy, opinions needed

I have had small shifts in POI with my suppressed rifles - a one time sight adjustment from the unsuppressed setting takes care of that.. NO increase in group size.

Like most of the other responders Have had great luck with suppressors. Shooting varmints and in competition. Lots of fun in the prairie dog field when everyone is suppressed. There will be a POI shift, sometimes small sometimes bigger than I expected. Barrel contour is a big thing. The only down side is as a carry rifle the balance is off. But a short 18-20 inch barrel and a titanium can helps a bunch. Just remember more volume more sound suppression. Lane, Sig,Elite Iron are what I have for now. Tikka T3 20 inch med Palma 223 with a Lane Scorpion is pretty cool.

Tune the suppressor like it is a tuner. With a direct thread you can add one or several 1 thou spacers between the can and the barrel shoulder. Very similar to fine adjusting a tuner. Add retest, add retest until you find the sweet spot.

I'll see if I can kill two birds with one stone here. I had an old Hart HV taper barrel that had been hanging out in a barrel tube for about 30 years. I shot extremely well on a HV BR rifle when I was competing. I have heard it a million times that button rifled barrels are full of stresses and if you turn the OD on those barrels they may be ruined and never shoot again. I turned that barrel to a #5 taper and threaded the muzzle for a direct thread SAS titanium suppressor. Neither the machining nor the addition of the suppressor seems to have hurt the precision of that barrel. It's a 10 pound coyote rifle with a 14x optic.

I didn't want to fork out $600+ for a suppressor, so I went the Form 1 route and made my own. Since I also don't own a lathe, I formed 19 freeze plugs into cones for the baffles (10" tube). That was 3 years ago. I don't recall what the group size was after screwing on the "can", but I do remember re-tuning the load.
This can is on a Savage Target Action/Bartlein barrel combo in 6SLR used exclusively for groundhog hunting. Longest kill - 975 yards from a rotating bench.
