ED glass sightron fixed 45x45

Is the glass Sightron uses in the ED 45x45 the same quality as the SSVSED 10-50x60 glass ? Anyone compare the two side by side? Everyone raves about the 10-50x60 ED glass being great but the 45x45 just good. Makes one wonder if it's the same quality glass?

^^^^ This. I've owned 2 of the ED 45x
They are a little darker cause of the 45mm objective bell and the tube dia. ( 30 vs 34 )
You wouldn't notice it unless you had the larger objective bell and compared the two
at the same time.
It's still a very clear sight picture.
It's not meant to be a 1000yds. scope.
Works great as a closer range scope.

I have the sved and the 45, im pretty sure the glass is the same. like others said, the tube difference and obj differences prevent an even comparison. to me the 45x is as bright as the fixed power comp and others have agreed with that opinion. the sved imho is the best for the money if you can carry the weight. and maybe period regardless of $$$ spent, the thing is bright, clear, edge to edge, and poi holding is perfect in test if im not mistaken. I haven't shot with the 45x but it will be going on my ppc as soon as I get unpacked from moving:mad::mad:. good luck with your decision making if that's what this thread is about, the 45x is great in my opinion, of course im still trying to figure out how to hit more than just the dirt, so............

Thanks Nate, That's what I'm asking. I know all about the size of this one vs that one we all know that I hope. You don't hear that when they compare the NF 42x44 fixed vs the NF Comp glass. We are talking about Sightron scopes costing $1000 vs $2000, big price jump.

Well the Nightforce offerings you speak of are in the same league. Same objective and tube dia.
I can tell you for sure my 2 sightron 45x eds are not as bright compared to my sightron 10x50x60 non ed 30mm tube. I use them for weight reasons

Nobody here has mentioned exit pupil yet. The 45x45 has an exit pupil of 1mm. That is less than the typical adult, especially as we grow older. The 10-50x60 at 50x has an exit pupil of 1.2 which would make it brighter. Run it at 45x your exit pupil goes up to 1.33mm. That makes it way brighter than the 45x45.

That says nothing about the tube size. In general none of the erector sections and mag control sections clip the light that comes from the objective. The increased size is only to get more available elevation and windage adjustment.
