Economy in converting factory Rem 700 barrels to remage

I would not do a nut. I would simply get some overthick lugs and and sand them to headspace. If you are going THAT cheap (when you can buy a brand new Remage for $269 to $300) I would think sanding a lug would be a suitable amount of precision.

World record barrels have been chambered on centers.

PS: I do not think you could make the barrel any worse by extending the threads for a nut. If you have a lathe and you are bored, I say knock yourself.

I don't have the greatest setup (12x36 Enco) but it works fine for what I do. Excuse the messiness, my uncle's shop is definitely in need of a cleaning.

Here's a couple of pictures on how it turned out. There's a slight interrupted cut where the previous recoil lug recess was. Outside of that it's pretty much like any other Remage.

I think that picture shows what exactly would work.

Once again, I do not think this would make the barrel any WORSE than it was to begin with...

I did a couple, but to be even cheaper I cut Savage threads on them. Cheaper tool, cheaper nut same outcome. Fireforming barrels are where take offs shine. Who cares if you cook it!
