Easy Chrono Setup

The end of that video being the most important! I know a gentlemen that forgot the bore sighter in the barrel. Ended up with a nice new fireform barrel because of the bulge. No other damage.

Be safe

We've done this for a while, and demonstrate the use of a laser and cardboard in our reports of multi-chrono testing. We've used a small, tube-type cylindrical laser. With a constant-diameter profile barrel you simply place the laser along the barrel. If the barrel is contoured (tapered), we align the laser with the side of the scope base. You just have to make sure the laser is aligned in all planes. A Weaver-style scope base can usually do that.

Nothing wrong with using the bore-sighter type laser -- as long as you remember to remove it!!

Thank you for all the kind words, but as I mentioned in the video, my friend Joe F. deserves a lot of the credit.

Kindest regards

Joe

I went with a little different laser bore sighter for the setup I use. Its about the same price as the one above and eliminates the possibility of firing the rifle with the laser still in the barrel. This laser bore sighter replaces the cartridge and goes in the chamber, so its impossible to fire the gun with the laser inserted.

All my rifles are based on the 308 or 223 case head, so all I needed was two. If you shoot different calibers with different case heads, this cartridge type laser would prob not be the way to go.....

Hi Harold,
I agree that the cartridge lasers are much better, but that's not what I had. But if I had to buy one I'd probably go with that. Its the safest route by far.

Which type of laser would give the brightest dot out to 50 or 100 yds,
For the in bbl types?

Which colors show up better in bright sun lite?

Being color blind to Red/Green/Brown and Grey colors, :(
Never used one before.

We just take a piece of mason's twine, loop it on the rear sight or scope base then stretch it down the barrel and out through the chronograph. One person can quickly center the screens with the bore center line. Old school but it works, no batteries, nothing in the bore.

I have used the string method in the past, but I found it of little help. IMMV.

Well Harold,
You were right. My bore sighter experienced sudden death when it encountered a 200 grain Berger going 2700 fps on its way out of the barrel. The only thing left was pieces of pink ribbon. And I turned my 30" barrel into a 26" one. Fortunately nothing else was damaged and I am now the proud owner of Sight Mark bore sighter. :o ??? ::) :P

Joe

P.S. I'm going to update my YouTube video in the near future.
