What's the ID state hunting weight limit again? Some of us have 18lb plus rifles. But I didn't consider bringing it since there would be little advantage in a field course. I was thinking maybe the 308 WIN or the 25/06 AI, maybe the 22/250 AI if I can get the bugger to shoot. Then again I could bring the 6mm Rem, or the 300 Win mag. Hmmm.

the idaho weight is 16 lbs max and that includes being loaded
all of those you have listed sound good to me. i will be shooting either .22-250ai, 243 ai or 6-284 most likely

Well there goes my 308 Win, then. Weird law, strange for Idaho, a mostly conservative state. I think the 25/06 AI will be the best bet then. How far out are we shooting?

Not really, it is my F-class Savage I bought three years ago for my first match then went custom so I put a HS precision stock of a BVSS 12 Savage on it, it has a 30" tube and for a factory rifle it doesn't shoot bad.

the small game will be 150-500 and the big game will be 500-100

i am thinking that once the match is over and everyone who wants to go does as long as we have light to do so, maybe we can move a target ot two out further and stretch our guns out a bit. either way this should be fun

Re: eastern wa/ n idaho long range match ( sportsman's challenge )

i am hoping my 6-284 is within my own rule, if not ill shoot something else.

Sounds nice, I've seen some shooters on similar builds. I think our 1000 yard club record is even held with a aftermarket Savage 6.5x284 barrel.

LOL, re-read your post.

not enough zero's in there yeah it will be out to 1000 yards sorry

It's late for me too! Will shooters team up and shoot in pairs, or will we have a range officer monitoring each target with a spotting scope?

That is a good question Caleb, Maybe teams like in F-Class would be good and keep you from having to many officers, a shooter and a spotter and the spotter can score the shooter, just a thought ;)

Re: eastern wa/ n idaho long range match ( sportsman's challenge )

wayne,

i have thought of that. the only thing is do we randomly draw teams or do we let them match up with anyone they bring?
i thought that the draw system would be a good way, but waybe if they dont bring someone then they will get drawn into a team

Calib,
I prefer my son to be my partner as we know what to expect and what we want from one another, we also would be honest as most would but there is always the exception to the rule and someone would cheat to win so I think the only fair way to do it would be to put #'s in a hat, divide the shooters into two even groups and have one of the two groups draw there shooting and spotting partner that would keep it even and fair.
Wayne.

I think Calib has found a good solution, where you can shoot with your son and it keeps everyone honest. I'll let him post it up.

Re: eastern wa/ n idaho long range match ( sportsman's challenge )

wayne,
arent you up a bit early to be on this site? usually you are the night shift keeping everyone up.

what tanner and i talked about is this partner thing obviously, but i think what we will do is if/ when someone brings a partner they can shoot with them and all the singles that come without one will be put in for the random draw this way they will have a partner to spot and keep score for them and vise versa. there will be two people shooting at the same time with four firers on the line. there will be a team at the big game and then a team at the small game. one from each team will shoot then after they are done the others in that team will shoot. this way we dont have a lot of time used up switching people out on the line and we can keep a little order with the weapons and movements going on at the line. there will be a staff spotter per section (big, small game) that way there can be some extra eyes to aid the team spotter, they can also keep a good eye on the firers, course ect.

now you and dead eye jr. can shoot together and any other father son groups or buddies that come together can stay together and have fun. i wouldnt want to split up the father son or the two guys that always hunt together especially since i would like this to be as close to real life hunting scenario as possible.
