earth quake

The news coverage on this cracks me up. They're all upset about a 4.8 in NYC, when a quake like that hits the west coast, especially CA, no one really notices.....no big deal. Get over it, it's NOT a big deal when something like the 7.4 that smacked Taiwan is considered. Wimps.

As if I really care about NYC. Must be a slow news day.

Years ago, I was at Dads in SoCal and woke up to the bed shaking. Thought I had overslept and Dad was waking me up so we could go play golf that morning. Opened an eye and saw it was still dark, and though "just another earthquake" so rolled over and went back to sleep.

My parents in central Connecticut felt it. My dad checked the vibration feature on his recliner. He thought he accidentally turned it on :rolleyes:
And if you were still down on the shore you may have felt it also.
I was in reloading room and thought the garbage men were out front picking up, but the wife came running downstairs and wanted to know if I felt it. With in minutes, it was all over that thing - face book.

4.8 and we wonder if it was or just a big truck went by. It's just a curiosity. 6+, that gets your attention.

I was in town after a night out when the 1983 Borah Peak 6.9 earthquake hit. We were nearly 80ish miles away from the epicenter in a mobile home park and it was amazing, the asphalt and ground had maybe 2-3ft high rounded waves with log peaks and valleys so the trailer would go up/down end to end, but mostly just shook. I never imagined the ground let alone asphalt could bend like that and not split, looked more like a fluid. Still remember that like yesterday, especially the fridge walking out until the cord almost unplugged, then walked back into the hole to almost the same spot it was sitting before.

Driving up river from Salmon towards Challis just out of town where the roadside cliffs start beside the river there was a dark spot in the road right on the centerline. I stopped and it was a hole maybe 18-20" wide and could just barely see the top of the rock in the bottom about 5ft down! Needless to say I didn't linger there and was glad I wasn't on the road when it happened.
