Earning your Distinguished???

I hope some one can help me out here, I just spent the last 2 hours trying to get a straight answer, with no luck....
What matches are allowed to "win" points to go distinguished?
I know that the whimbledon and the leech cup matchs are good, what about the other 1000 yard matches at Perry?

Also how many points are needed??? I've herd either 30 or 50.

This year at perry, I shot match 532, 1000 yard prone slow fire.
and got third place expert with a score of 196-8x.
will I recieve any score point for this match?

Any help is more than welcomed....

The only types of distinguished matches that I know of are CMP pistol, rifle, and international. The NRA has a distinguished revolver program.

The distinguished rifle program is shot at 200, 300, and 600 yards just like a standard across the course high power match. The pistol match is shot at 25 and 50 yards. The CMP matches restrict you to service style rifles and pistols. You need 30 points to get distinguished.

Check out the CMP web site for more information, http://www.odcmp.com/Competitions.htm

To answer your question about how you did in the 1000 yard match. You'll probably get some NRA award points,NRA money), but not CMP leg points.

The Distinguished Marksman program is NOT run under the NRA, and NRA matches do NOT earn points.
The CMP manages the Distinguished Marksman program, and all the info can be obtained at their website, www.odcmp.com
Many times "Leg" matches are run in conjunction with larger NRA matches, like a Regional and State Championships, but all reporting is done to the CMP, and CMP rules regulate the Leg matches. Firing must be done with a Service Rifle.
Good luck.

SilverEagle, there is only one kind of match that will get you points toward a Distinguished badge--an EIC match. With few exceptions, usually only open to service members, these are National Match courses of fire--10 standing slow 200, 10 sitting rapid 200, 10 prone rapid 300, and 20 prone slow 600--with no sighters and must be fired with a Service Rifle. Only the top 10% of the non-distinguished shooters are awarded points. You must have 30 to become Distinguished. There are a lot of other rules and restrictions such as the number of EIC matches you can fire in a year etc., that are all best found at the CMP's website,if you can find them,'cause I couldn't).

In short, no, you won't get any points for the long-range match that you shot in. You'd have to attend the CMP matches that are held before the NRA matches begin.

rstreich,

Just to clarify one statement.

The EIC matches are open to any and all not just service members.

Pay your fee and shoot your service rifle.

Bob

The exceptions are usually closed to non-service members. When I was shooting High Power, for example, the Interservice, All Army, and MACOM leg matches were closed to civilians.
