Ear muffs that are slim for stock clearance

Electronic muff that are slim for stock clearance. Best out there lets (hear) about what you guys like.

I don't know if they are the best out there, but I have had and use a set of Impact Sport electronic muffs and they work well and allow me to get comfortable on my rifle stocks.

When I was looking I was concerned the Impact Sports didn't have a great noise reduction rating. They're at 22.

The Impact Pros have a NRR of 30.....but of course they're much bigger.

I ended up getting the Impact Pros and, while clunky, I can and do use them when shooting rifle. I tend to push the ear piece up as high on the headband as much as I can while keeping my ear well covered. This works quite well re getting reasonable stock clearance. Be aware they aren't particularly comfortable in hot weather or for long periods of time. They're on the ear not over the ear. I only wear them if I have to talk with someone. (My preference is custom ear plugs.)

MSA Sordin with gel pads. They were the most slim I could find and still have enough decibel reduction to make them worthwhile. That being said I am a foam plug with muffs on top guy as I cannot afford any more hearing loss; foamies alone are not enough IMO. I will say that they are way overpriced:(.

What's wrong with you people?
You will spend THOUSANDS on a rifle who knows how much on reloading equipment and components , not to mention a scope for said rifle, and then complain about the price of something that will save your hearing.
What is left of my hearing is priceless, so personally I'll spend what is needed to save it.

I use the Peltor electronic ear muffs and I really like them. I don't have any problem with them at all with cheek weld on the stock like I do with most others and they work fantastic. They are slightly contoured in the correct places so they don't get in the way and battery life is excellent. I love being able to talk normally at the range and hear everything that's going on while still protecting my hearing.

I have Peltor Range Guard's and they're pretty slim. I don't recall the NRR, but probably have the paperwork somewhere. I seldom throw away any paperwork on anything.:)

I like Sordin as well, Peltors are fine also. Unlike many sport shooting ones these will keep working in rain, snow, ice, all temperatures, for years. They make consumer-oriented ones with BT connection so you can tie to your phone.

They are, also unlike basically all sport oriented one: designed. They work as well as they can with things like putting your head on the stock. They are not slim per se, but relieved at the bottom for minimal interference. Your head is still the only thing touching the stock (no earpro-weld) but their shape means you can avoid any extra contact to not gap them, or get noise and discomfort on recoil from contact.

Not cheap, but totally worth it. Also get gel seals and replace every few years, try to find a memory foam top band; all I know of are small producers who go out of business periodically, but so worth it

Add foam plugs underneath for more protection.

HUH? WHAT?...lol do they make some that is more like hearing aids that will do both? Meaning will they stop the noise as well as amplify like hearing aids

Believe it or not, my Howard Leight’s seem to amplify a small amount, At the range, when there is no firing, I seem to hear and understand conversations better with them on and the volume turned up all the way.
I will have a hearing test early next year and will bring them. There may be a way to test them more scientifically.I am still going to get hearing aids. Wearing the muffs in public, just looks a little too goofy.

My hearing’s trashed, been that way for 60 years. Dad never used ear protection when he taught me how to shoot pistols.
The Leight Impact Sport comes closer to what will work for me ‘on the gun’ than anything else I’ve tried but with a 22 rating they’re not as good as foamies which aren’t as uncomfortable in summer after several hours either. So I use plugs when on the line, the muffs the rest of the time I’m out around other shooters.

When I insert quality foamies properly I cannot hear range commands or my scorer. When I wear amplified/gated muffs I can hear voices(..OK...opened myself up on that one) and get some extra attenuation to boot. In the last 3 annual audiologic exams, since using both devices, there has been no identifiable hearing loss. My wife does not share the opinion of my audiologist however.;)

Are you a vet as the V.A. tested me last week and upgraded mine . The new ones can be sync to phone for adjustment and also have a remote . I'm with you ,I can't get along with muffs

I have an inner ear disorder, and can generally hear better with my Sordins, including localizing sound direction, than without. The volume control is also nice. Both ways, not just to old-man amplify. When super windy or with Loud Talking people, just turn down a click :)
