Ear & Eye Pro. ??

R.Morehouse

Gold $$ Contributor
Looking to get some more effective ear & eye pro. coming into the 17' season. I shoot a 6ppc and a 1000yd BR gun w/a break. I would like to get away from muffs if it is doable & effective. Eye pro. is non RX and would like opinions on color of lenses to best see 100-200 BR targets and out over the green stuff at Williamsport to 1000....Thanks for your input

Regards
Rick

The only thing I don't shoot "doubled up" is my .22. 50 years ago it was cool to have your ears ringing for days.
Now, sadly they do it all the time.:(
Preserve your hearing, it doesn't get better with age like fine wine!
I hope this helps,

Lloyd

Double up! No single protection will knock a brake'd gun down to a safe level for your ears.

I like these plugs: comfy, and the string keeps them from disappearing:

MSA Sordin Supreme with the gel cups are the best muffs out there. Expensive? Yes. Good? Yes. They offer excellent hearing protection, and will boost ambient sounds (range commands and the like) up so you can easily have a conversation, despite wearing plugs under them. Also, the big kicker: they are comfortable, even with glasses under them! They are fairly slim as well, to clear the stock.

Many people prefer the rear band version for added stability:

For eye pro, I find these glasses are excellent. The thin arms slip under the gel cups on the muffs and stay in place without pressure. The lenses are clear and crisp, and come in many colors, or clear.

For your ears if you can pull up posts by normmatzen you will find pages of info he has written on ear protection.

I have been a fan of custom fitted ear plugs since I got my first set in 1993. That is all I use for skeet shooting, but when the rifles come out, I add a set of passive or electronic low profile muffs.
For shooting glasses, you might want to look at Post4 or Decots in a kit with multiple lenses. Then you can change lenses for the different lighting conditions. There are other suppliers out there too that also have the interchangeable lenses. I have used those for years and have about 6 color sets and now that I have aged, have also gotten them in RX.

PM your mailing address to me, and I'll send some Max foam plugs to you to get you started in the right direction. It's up to you to add to that. Install them correctly. No charge, of course;)
