E Bay Payment Policy

I only use E Bay occasionally, so when I listed an item, a pop up screen said they have a new payment policy. Looks as though they do not use Pay Pal anymore. They want you to give them your checking account info. Am I reading this correctly? Has anyone used this newer policy? They still put Pay Pal as an option on the boiler plate part of the listing.

Forum Boss: PayPal is still offered, but PayPal is requesting a back-up account in the event of a non-delivery (or other scam) by seller. See F-Class John's post below for more details.

I bought something from ebay last week, a P.O. Ackley book, and paid with paypal.
You paid with Paypal. The SELLER takes it in the shorts.
New policy is, you sell, Paypal wants YOUR Bank account #. Not gunna happen!!
Don't sell on on Ebay anymore, just for THAT reason. I pay thru Paypal BUT, use my CC Card for payment. Seems like a while back they ("Paypal") wanted to tie bank accounts to your account? NOT MINE!! I would rather throw my stuff in the trash then let Paypal tell me what to do!!
Sticking their nose a little to far into MY business. NO MORE!!

Buds takes payment like that or you pay 3% & now Kentucky is changing to that also. Ebay still takes paypal.

From what I understand it's largely because people were hiding behind PayPal with shady practices. They could keep very little in there and then screw someone over and PayPal wrote it off because they had no other recourse. I've seen sellers sell bad products, get paid then pull the money straight from PayPal and then when Ebay tries to collect on behalf of the buyer Ebay eats it because there's no money in the PayPal account. They now want access to bank accounts directly to help secure funding for problems if/when they arrive. If that's really the reason then I think bad people will just do the same thing with a bank account but we will see. On the surface I get it and have been an active seller since around 1999 and have sold enough some years that I get a 1099 and there's always been an advantage one way or the other depending on policy changes. Sometimes sellers have the advantage to screw over buyers and sometimes the other way. There's always a group of people out there looking to take advantage sadly, and the 99% of honest people end up taking the brunt of policy changes (good and bad) to police the 1% who don't.
