Duplicating factory load?

If one were to use the same bullet-same case-load to the same OAL and load to same velocity would you get the same POI and accuracy as factory match ammo?

More than likely probably not although it may be better could be worse could be the same it's really just a coin toss. I will mention that if the factory load is shooting fairly well for you it definitely be a good place to start for your seating depth

You will not be able to duplicate the powder used in factory loads, so forget it. I have tried. Some ammo manufacturers use custom powder blends.

......and your neck tension prolly won't be the same. A while ago, some guys deciphered the formula for FGMM. It shot pretty dang close in my 308. It's a place to start if you get the powder right.

Specifics would help (unless it is a general question).

Caliber, bullet, brand.......

Even if you know and have the same exact components, duplicating Factory ammo is a hit or miss.

I tired to duplicate 308w FGMM 175gr (F.C. brass, 175smk, 41.7gr IMR-4064, 210-M primer, 2.800"coal) and it didn't work as well as the factory stuff.

I also duplicated Winchester's 168gr Match load ( Win. brass, 168smk, 45gr W-748, WLR primer 2.790"coal) and it worked exactly like the factory load. Accuracy, velocity and point of impact was spot on.

POI would most likely be off a little just because everything would really have to be identical which is close to impossible on a scientific scale. But accuracy SHOULD be better for many reasons. Bullet runout should be better when seating lightly be hand. Neck tension should be more uniform. Powder measurements will be more uniform, primer pockets and flash hole should be more uniform. Seating depth although we are saying it is the same, will be more uniform from round to round. Even the cartridge base to datum point should be more uniform. Individually, you may or may not see an improvement between uniforming these procedures and what the factory does but with the large number of factors being improved, i would say it is probable that you would see an improvement. After all, that is why we reload right? And if you dont see an improvement, i would imagine it is either because you are comparing hand loads to a match grade factory load that is very very good, or your handloads have tolerances that could be tightened up a bit. Just my 2 cents.
