dummy round for new barrel

As the title says I was asked to send in a dummy round for my new barrel. As this is my first custom barrel I am not sure what all they need this for. When I was asked I assumed it was for length of the throat.I took a new piece of rem brass and loaded a 105g a-max about .10 longer than my factory barrel. So that I would have a bit more to load longer.I have not shipped it out yet I wanted to be sure that I was right about why they needed it.I would like to know if I am correct. And I dnt plan on using much if any rem brass as I will go with Luapa.

Seat a bullet into a case the way you would like the bullet to seat in your new chamber; Make sure boat tail/bearing surface junction is above neck/shoulder junction. Load it in a case with no primer nor powder. I like to apply superglue to the inside of the neck before I seat bullet to ensure it does not move.

It's also not a bad idea to send more than one that are prepared with the same dimensions.

Sort the bullets so they have the same base-ogive measurement and then for uniform OAL's. Seat two or three in cases that have plenty of neck tension.

This will assure that you'll have your rifle throated to what you want, even if someone drops a dummy round.

After I went back and looked I do have it seated below the neck and shoulder junction. Why is it so importanr to be above that. And if I seat it real long will that make it hard to shoot the 75-100g bullets. As the 105g a-maxs are long.

Doughnuts form at the neck-shoulder junction, that's the reason you want to be above that.

You'll be fine with other bullets if you seat the AMAX above neck-shoulder junction.
