Dumb question in targets

So dumb question here but I see these type of targets alot , have never used them and just curious, how exactly are you supposed to shoot them. Meaning where exactly are you supposed to aim ?like inside the diamond? Or at the yellow? Or is that just like a reference for judging you groups size ?

I would use a bubble level to affix the target to board and then align x-hairs accordingly. before that I would twist the elevation up 3 moa. Or better yet just stick a pasty on your board relative to your magnification and twist the dial up a moa or two.

Question : why would you want to aim at a point that provides no horizontal or vertical reference?

Align your crosshairs to intersect the corners of the diamond then add a few clicks so your shots land above in the gray circle. That way you have ultra-precise aiming alignment references which are not affected by the shot holes.

This principal is how I designed a popular target for AccurateShooter.com:

my preference. 1/4 inch diamonds with slotted (twin line) horizontal and verical axis marks. your reticles will not get lost.

but shouldn't you also level the target on the board? otherwise you would be forced to shoot with a cant.

Forum Boss: Yes, this assumes you would set the target level -- that's pretty much true of all target placements. I take a small hand level to the range because the target frame itself may be slightly off-axis due to the terrain.

That assumption is one I would rarely witness on the ranges I used to shoot at! But they were primarily frequented by sport shooters just having fun trying to shoot small groups with their handloads. I used to see them using your targets or similar. I dont recall ever seeing a level other than my one!

In my opinion, this type of target and shooting is the only way to conduct load testing to avoid the bullet hole in your aiming point thus obscuring a precise reticle placement on the aiming point.
