Dual purpose scope opinions needed

I have a .260 improved that is to serve a dual role. It is set up as a long range tactical shooter (600-1000 yards), but I would also like it to serve as a back up hunting rifle (mostly whitetail and coyotes in Missouri). I have plenty of deer rifles, but this is such a joy to shoot I hate leaving it at home as much as I do. Also the more I shoot it the better I get with it.

The issue I'm having is picking a scope that can serve both roles. I need a low magnification for when I'm in the woods, but would like to have decent power when shooting at longer ranges.

I'm flexible on all, but a few things that would probably be best.
Mil dot reticle
good size objective for low light situations
probably want the low side to be a Max of 4x
Would like to set the Top price at $800 for this particular scope. (new or used is fine).

For hunting I use the Mildots for hold over instead of clicks so I don't need/want target turrets.
What do you recommend?
Thanks.
Kevin

From what I can see of your wants, the new 6400 Bushnell Elite 4.5x30 is your best bet..
A nice short length and enough power if you need it, and a really good warranty..
The mildot is available, and they also have a DOA reticule that may be suitable for what you do..
The can be found used for around $650.00 and up, depending...
Seems like there was one on this site a few days ago.....

Just bought the Bushnell 6500 4.5-30X50mm Tactical model myself for the same exact reasons. Tactical model gives you the exposed adjustment knobs and the standard 6500 has capped knobs.

Works perfectly. Compact, lightweight, great glass, solid adjustments, low mag and high mag. Best of everything ;)
Definitely worth every penny of the price point. I bought mine new on ebay for $734 with free shipping. That was the best NEW price I could find anywhere.

I bought one of these when Bushnell sent me a 60% off coupon. I loved it. It went with the rifle that it got mounted on. Wish I still had it.
