Has anyone had experience using this scope in hunting situations and the illuminated reticle in low light? Would appreciate your opinions.
This thread is probably too specific. Anyone using a Vortex for low light conditions/
Thanks
Bill

hasn't been hunting, but I've stayed a little long at the range with my PST, and on a lower setting, like 4-5, the reticle is nice and visible, but not overpowering. It seems to work pretty well. I'll have to some real testing though

It's got 10 different brightness settings. I'd be real surprised if it wouldn't work for you. I have a 4-16 and a 2.5-10 and like mine, but haven't use the illuminated reticle on game.

I used that scope for hunting one year. But it was the "SFP" model. Never used the illumination though because it is illegal to hunt game with any artificially lighted sights in Montana. But illumination works very well with no bleeding at all. Dimmer than most scopes too so that it never gets overpowering in the view which I liked. Also has OFF positions in between every power setting so you only have to turn it one click to shut it off and re-light to your favorite setting.

I always use turrets for long range shooting. Not a fan of using reticles for holdover. Turrets have VERY solid felt adjustments. Very similar to NightForce NXS.

Only thing I didn't like was how the turrets sit in a "bucket" on the scope body. If you are in a cold climate, ice can build up in there if out in the field during freezing rain or snow.

Glass is about the same as Leupold VXIII

the illumination is very nice. great feature is that there is an off setting between each adjustment. so you can find the setting u like and one turn will get you there. as said previously. plenty of adjustment for low light situations.
