Dual port question?

Phil

Gold $$ Contributor
I have only owned single port actions, hence my lack of knowledge on the dual port`s.....

Say i buy a left port right eject action.......When ejecting the fired brass does it toss it out or just lob it out???????

I really don`t want to have to go chasing after any of it.....

I`m looking into a dual port BAT......FWIW.

Bats just dribble it out the port.

If you're gonna order a Bat for a BR or Dasher, make sure you specify that. They need a Sako extractor and the proper cut on the exhaust side.

My SV action will eject depending on how fast I run the bolt. If I do it slow it just comes out and drops an inch or two away. If I do it to slow, it can just drop it in the bolt runway and not eject at all. If I run it fast it will flip it off the shooting bench. I wasn't sure if I would like a dual port, but now that I have gotten used to it I would buy another. If I'm not in a hurry though I like my left port with no ejector better.

I have two BAT SV dual port actions which were ordered from BAT with no special instructions. They both will throw a case about two feet on a "normal" bolt opening in stock form. The ejector spring can be shortened to tune the ejection to anyway you want it, from "dribble" to "lively". The action is a piece of art though.

Phil,
What says you have to leave the ejector sping in at all? I don't have a BAT action, but own a few Savage dual port actions that I've removed the ejector spring completely. I don't have to do anything but reach up and pull the spent casing out of the end of the bolt. Something to consider.

I shoot with alot of guys who shoot Bat actions that seem to eject out a few inches anyway..I have never ran one.
I have a Borden Rimock BR RBLPRE and it ejects them out about the same a few inches out the port, a thick towl on the bench to catch them, I love it..it's allmost to the place where i'm going to sell all my other rifles and build only on that Rimrock BR..it's hard to shoot anything else now.

I order BATs, dual port or not, no-eject. And I convert most other guns to single shot only, no-eject.
The only exception is one BAT RS action, which is standing blade ejection. With this one I can pick or throw em.
But really I've never desired throwing or dropping my brass anywhere.

I don't even like drop port, given that it drops cases onto their mouths..

Lots of shooters use "no eject" set-ups, especially in Pandas. But there is a school of thought that to send a few downrange quickly in a good condition, ejection is required. I noticed at our shoot today that more than half, including Wayne France, the Llewellyn's and the Eubers use ejectors. It truly is a matter of preference and no big advantage outside of the quick shooting.

Well said!

You could also check out the "static" ejectors on some of the Kelbly dual ports, mechanical ejector based off the bolt release, you can dribble the case out or sling it to the next bench depending on how hard you pop it.

2 of the nice things I've found with it are that it's simpler than a spring and the case mouths don't come in contact with the inside of the action when leaving the chamber, they stay straight in line till the ejector is engaged which is right at the ejection port.

This would be a standing blade ejection mshelton.

Best of ejection systems IMO.
I have a BAT with it.
If you get a factory action with standing blade, like a Savage short magnum, they're set for a particular cartridge and can work better than generic settings with aftermarket actions(for the same cartridge). With these, you can throw brass into a hat from 0-6ft with total control.

mike i felt the same way for a long time, none of my single ports have the ejector, i took the plunger's out.
I mean come on i spent alot of time turning ect to the case necks and dont even want them touched..well i got over it and just let them fly now. i have even seen a few that looked liked they might have a very slight ding on them,I just dumped the powder in and seated the bullet and they went right into the group..I have been in the low .100's with them cases in my 6ppc.. so i dont worry about it anymore and just shoot..But i do eject them out onto a thick soft towel..so they dont get dinged.

I'm not a competitor, but a varmint hunter.
It's brass LOSS that I'm most concerned with. The stuff is the same color as hay(and other stuff) I shoot out of!

I don't even wanna know what the other stuff is.......

I here you mike, i dont have a ejector in my 6BR varmint rifle and i seem to loose a peice or two in the hay field every year.

varmint hunter here and i remove the ejector and spring on my guns. test how easy it is to remove a fired case because one of my 22-250 won't let go of the case without a struggle! the rim seems to bind under the bolt face near the extractor...takes too much time when i need a followup shot...not very often i might add! had a win 22 br that would drop the case and sometimes trying to remove it i would accidently push it into the chamber area and had to fiddle to get it out...pita. all other gun's bolts just present the case in the ejection port and removal is easy and i don't lose brass.

Robbor,
You may be surprised!! Call BAT and tell them you want to order a DROP-PORT action.
My friend PMAURADER has one on order now.
