Drying brass

I use a SS pin tumbler - dry in a tabletop convection oven set at 150 deg.
I use for cooking, didn't buy for brass drying. works great, the fan really helps.
300 cases at once.

I turn on my convection oven to 250 degrees. Rinse/drain brass in a colander. Transfer brass to a large towel, fold in half lengthwise and let brass gently tumble up and down several times to allow excess water to run out. Put the brass on a cookie sheet in oven. Turn off heat after 15-20 minutes but let brass stay in oven for an hour or so while oven is still warm. A non-convection oven would need more time.

On warm sunny days instead of putting in the oven I set the cookie sheet out in the sun for several hours or more......works great too.

If you're looking to add gear, any of the dryers - Frankford Arsenal, Lyman, Hornady, generic cheap food dehydrator - will do a fine job. I have the FA dryer and am very happy with its performance.

If not, a cookie sheet or similar and the oven set to warm will get the job done. Low tech? Set your brass on a towel in the sun on a warm/hot day. Allows for a beer or two as one supervises the process . . .

I tumble in SS pins, but you can use the same method. Rinse the brass and put them in an unfolded towel. Grab the corners of the towel, fold in half lengthwise and agitate the brass like you would a bowling ball. (raise one end then the other) It gets most of the water/fluid off and out of the brass. I then set them in loading blocks to air dry.

I have been sun drying my brass for years. I recently bought a Frankford Arsenal dryer. Now I'm wondering why I didn't do this long ago. Nothing but good to say about the FA dryer except there is no On and Off switch which is common to dryers. It does have a variable heat control though.

I place a large towel on my reloading bench and dry the outside of the cases. I have an air compressor under my bench set at about 100 PSI. With a rubber tipped nozzle I blow them out through the primer hole . This acts like a venturi and drys out the cases in a few seconds. Then into the loading tray to sit over-night.

I guess I also go low tech, and blow them out with my air compressor from both ends. Then let them sit neck down after I've finished for the night.

grab all 4 corners of a towel and roll them around in it. then put them on a cookie sheet in the oven- 150deg for an hour and no spots.

I use the SS pin method and it depends on the weather how I dry them. After tumbling I put them in a towel and rock back an forth to get the excess water of them. Then if it's bright and sunny they go outside to finish drying in the sun and breeze. If it's crappy outside like it has been here for SO LONG, I put the towel over a floor register and blow dry them that way.

Gas oven?? Lay the cases out on a cookie sheet in a warm oven.
Electric oven? Warm it up, turn it off, add cookie sheet and brass.
If you live where the Sun is shining, outside in the Sun will work.

How do you dry your brass after ultrasonic cleaning? Anyone tried the new Lyman dryer?
New WAVE oven. Temp sets as low as 120 and has lots of air flow. Can do 500 221 FB cases in about 20 minutes set on 220.

I prefer the oven at 200 degrees, since that is the temp at which water will vaporize completely. I live in fear of damp cases, and haven't had any yet. jd

I got a wally world food dehydrator, has 5 trays, on/off switch and temp control, works great and is pretty quite, don't have to turn up the TV when it's running.

I just use a blow dryer and use them the next day usually anyway. I can dry a couple hundred .308 in mere minutes.
