Dry bore or lubed

Because the second one is riding on carbon and graphite. Matt

Do you really think the bore is damaged by one brass jacket rubbing on steel? If the tiny amount of carbon remaining after cleaning prevented damage you couldn't get a copper deposit. Made up facts. Any carbon remaining after cleaning would be smaller than a microscopic layer.

The one thing that really works for me is to insert the bolt at that time. It has prevented some really strong pissing matches with myself when I get to the range and remember the bolt is sitting on the bench at home.

Good to know I'm not the only one who has done that

It really sucks to drive hours to a match, get there, not find your bolt, drive hours home, and figure out your bolt was in a side pocket of your rifle case. Le sigh...

I run a patch with 91% alcohol through when I'm done cleaning, and just pretend the first shot didn't happen. I also only clean every 100-200 rounds.

Like others, my last patch after cleaning is Lock Ease. Since starting that regimen my bores seem to foul less and first cold shots don’t produce crazy fliers.

Webster !! - No One Said Anything about "Bore damage" OR "Brass jackets" - except You. - I don't know if you shoot any certain discipline of competition shooting but there are real live results attributed to what people on here are talking about whether you believe it or not.
- I'm not looking for confrontation at all, But there are some of us on here who feel that shooting on a "Dry" bore before a record string of fire isn't conducive to the best in accuracy. - WHY ?? - Because we've done it Both ways & seen what the results are - simple as - nothing more, nothing less.

Sorry I need to pay more attention. Old age creeping up. I agree with you 100%. I'm usually not so careless. I shoot 2 fouling shoots after cleaning.

It's not about the bore. Most barrels I don't get 1000 rounds till the throat is too worn and winning accuracy falls off. It's about hitting the paper at 1000 yards with the first shot. Matt

I read an article years ago on this subject where the author was able to capture the bullets undamaged. There were very good pictures of how badly the first bullets jacket was abraded by a cold clean bore. Subsequent bullets looked better until the 4-5 bullet showed no abrasion. Those photos proved to me what a lot of us are thinking. I'm sold on the colloidal graphite, but I think it matters less what you use, so long as you are using something.
Thanks,

Lloyd
