I reckon I’m old and thick skinned - or thick headed. I shoot fairly limited now. I cannot drive so I depend on my wife to get me to my club as often as possible; usually a couple of times a month. I still shoot because I enjoy it. I like my gun club - I am one of the founding members. I like, far and away, the people I interact with at the club. Long story short, it’s fun. When it stops being fun, stop. I don’t care what you’re doing - fishing, flying kites, racing cars, collecting butterflies - there will always be someone who can tell you about the grand and glorious things they have done. Talk is cheap. Take it for what it’s worth. Sooner or later, if it counts for anything, it will all come out in the wash. Enjoy your time shooting and let them keep talking. My opinion. Some things are just not worth the worry.
