Drives me crazy!!

DRIVES MEE CRASY TOO ! I USE TO BUILD MOST OF guns for my predator club and some of the other
members would see some the groups from my guns that I built and than say my factory gun
shoots better that . shoots 1/4 inch all day long . so I say bull sh?T so when I see them out the
range shooting of course they can't . or there shooting 50 yds and then they are mad at me because I go
to the club meetings and tell other members that they are lying . and then I say there a benchrest match
very month . come shoot with us because guys shoot better all the bench rest guys. year after year you
here this crap it gets to you. so I set up a shoot for the great varmint gun shooters in my club. @350 yds.
most of them couldn't hit target my 9 year old son beat all of them. I'm shooting 600 yds now and
most the time no body agg. 1/4 moa wind is a bitch . so we are back square one there will always
be liars. and some are just delusional .and some just don't know. it still bugs me!!

The gun might shoot, and the load might shoot, but if the nut behind the trigger can't read the wind and adjust properly, there is little chance of holding groups in the one and twos in real world competition. Only when those three elements come together will you see 25-X's on the scoreboard. Good shooting, Jackie!

Hey guys,
love this site and really enjoy reading posts from true shooters! I have been shooting benchrest for group and score for years. Mostly just local matches so the 6PPC has always been a favorite but then started shooting the 6BR about 6-8 years ago.
I just have one pet peeve that drive's me crazy at times. That would be the guys that have factory rifles and state that their rifles shoot in the 1's and 2's. Just read on another thread about a guy with a .204 saying his rifle consistently shot 1/8 inch groups.
Man these guys should be heading to Arizona to shoot in the benchrest nationals! Hell I'd be all over a PPC that agged in the 2's.
I'm not doubting that when the moon and stars line up just right they have shot groups this small but i highly doubt they are doing this consistently. Just an observation and not trying to start anything.
I think most of those are one shot groups.

A good three shot group is just a random event.
Maybe if a person only shoots a single 3 shot group. Then yeah, of course there can be a fluke.

You can have a nice 10 shot group on any given day and it doesn’t mean it’s a good load to choose unless you prove it in a ladder.
I ladder test with 3 shot groups. Much more effective at showing true load characteristics and POI consistency than the single shot ladders many other folks use.

A fella posted this on another forum asking what node he should choose, several posted to pick the smallest group

Recently a guy on this website said his deer rifle with factory ammo always shot .250".

Well picking the smallest group could work ok in that instance because his point of impact of the groups on the target is very similar throughout the ladder.

However, if that target is only at 100 yards and those are 1” squares, I wouldn’t accept any of those groups. Don’t see a single group that even makes 3/4 MOA.

Saw this over on the Marlin owners website this evening...just poking the tiger

There was a guy over on ar15.com who came up with a "MOA all day long" challenge and created a thread. Anyone who boasted that their gun shot sub MOA all day long would get challenged to post five 5-shot groups in the thread. It was fun to watch.

one time while shooting at fairchance pa ,,,the late great Kenny Gilbert was shooting beside me,,,I looked over his way and he was sitting there with a dejected look on his face,,I asked "whats wrong"...he replied "I have only shot one shot and my group is allready in the twos !!".....Roger

The only real competition is between you and your target. Back in the day, when my sons were mastering the game of trap. I used tell them by the time we get to the gate, only you will remember how you shot.

The beauty of Benchrest is, every group is measured and recorded. Every match winner, nationals winner, and record broken is public knowledge. Anyone can poke fun or make claims but the facts are out there. The creed is no ppc but it has its place. Its a good design, has good components and is readily available. Whats not to like? I have seen some really small groups from the 6 creedmoor at 1k. Im a creedmoor fan :)

I would guess over here we have more "experience" shooting targets with factory rifles compared to you guys as it much easier and cheaper for you to build a semi/custom rifle but I will say that I have seen some crazy accurate factory rifles from Tikka to Howa to Savage and allot in between, obviously they wont stand a chance against a custom PPC or BR but still there is no denying that they really are accurate. I have also seen some shooters with customs that I would whip with one or two of my factory Sako's but I don't think that has to much to do with the rifle platform
