Drives me crazy!!

Hey guys,
love this site and really enjoy reading posts from true shooters! I have been shooting benchrest for group and score for years. Mostly just local matches so the 6PPC has always been a favorite but then started shooting the 6BR about 6-8 years ago.
I just have one pet peeve that drive's me crazy at times. That would be the guys that have factory rifles and state that their rifles shoot in the 1's and 2's. Just read on another thread about a guy with a .204 saying his rifle consistently shot 1/8 inch groups.
Man these guys should be heading to Arizona to shoot in the benchrest nationals! Hell I'd be all over a PPC that agged in the 2's.
I'm not doubting that when the moon and stars line up just right they have shot groups this small but i highly doubt they are doing this consistently. Just an observation and not trying to start anything.

Probably the same guys that will tell you that they met their French model girlfriend on the Internet also without actually producing pictures of her or those groups in the ones or twos.

I would say it’s very rare for factory rifles to shoot that good consistently but I have seen it personally.

I don’t really see the gripe about what people claim to shoot. Just because they claim to have a very accurate factory rifle doesn’t mean they need to enter a competition or it isn’t real. Just turn the other cheek and move on.

I’ve seen a mule deer buck on an old ranchers wall that I know would have smashed the Montana Boone & Crocket state record but he never had it scored and said he never would because he simply didn’t care. To him it was just a nice buck he shot one fall while out mending fences and had it mounted because the huge antlers made for one heck of a hat rack ;)

I have only had one factory rifle that was an absolute exception to the rule and shot well beyond what I ever would have imagined.
It was a factory 7mm Rem Mag TC Venture rifle I owned many years ago. All I did was have a Harrels muzzle brake installed. The action wasn’t even bedded in the cheap polymer factory stock. These are only 3 shot groups as it was only ever used as a hunting rifle. You will see groups on the top of about what a person would expect from a cheap factory rifle when I was testing MagPro powder. But when I shot two groups with RL-22 a full grain apart with Berger 168gr VLDs and looked at the target, my jaw dropped. Both of these groups were fired during load testing one right after the other with no barrel cooling between the shots in the groups. Both well under .2”. It was a bad day for me being too shaky if this rifle ever shot outside .25” at 100 yards when the conditions were good. So before you go calling BS on people just because you are a competition shooter and they are not, just know that it is possible for factory rifles to be extremely accurate. Even if it is a rarity.

I Agree, I would also say it depends on what "Factory Rife" they purchased.

Are we talking a Winchester for hunting or rifles made for target shooting?
Thompson Center LRR or
Ruger Precision Rifle,

Have a bigger budget?
Styer, Tikka, Sako, Bergara,

Have a bigger Budget?
Grunig & Elmiger
Bleiker...

The ones I laugh at are the pictures of groups that get posted with paper between the bullet holes and the owner claims it measures in the mid ones. You see that frequently.

You do realize at a decent 4 or 2 gun registered match the top 20 will have teen aggs these days? 2’s wont even get you on the top half on most days. Plenty of ppcs for sale thatll do it.

MOST DO IT ONE TIME AND THEY CALL IT CONSISTENLY CAUSE THATS ALL THEY SHOOT I AGREE WITH YOU 100%
I would say "consistently" is the key word. I have shot a few "ragged one hole" groups with a few factory rifles on a few rare occasions- never the proverbial "all day long". But I have shot more of them once I learned about conditions via competition matches.

I figure its our "fishing stories". Sure I know everybody has hooked Moby Dick. I actually smile when I hear these stories. Some people are really good at embellishing. Who knows if they are true? It is not worth arguing about or getting upset. We have all seen some incredible things happen at the range.

It depends on conditions.
True, the top 20 at any major event will have Rifles capable of that magic sub .200 agging capability, but that does not mean everybody will be shooting at that level.
The 2019 Super Shoot is a good example. Conditions were probably pretty tough, as by the time you got to the 20th place shooter, aggs were already in the mid two’s. In fact, the vast majority of participants down page were in the “threes”.
At ranges where conditions tend to be mild, you do see near record performance on a fairly consistent basis. But at ranges where you rarely get ideal conditions, “teen ages” are the exception, not the rule.

It’s the same in Score Shooting. I believe my 30 BR is capable of shooting 25 X’s every time I sit down. But of all the Matches I have shot in the past years, I have only done it three times.

I have been involved in Matches at Tomball for decades. We have a Factory Class and a Modifid Class. Shooters who believe they have excellent shooting Rifles will more times than not find out just how difficult extreme accuracy is to achieve when you sit down, on the clock, and have to hit that “X”, or for that matter, even the Ten Ring.

Just like all internet sites ...75% is outlandish talk.

A few nuggets here and there.
I've learned a few who's post is actual experience.

Kinda sad that so many aren't called out but I guess not stealing their joy keeps them in the game.
