Drilling For Aluminum Pillars

Hey guys,

The Brownell's pillars are .003"-.004" bigger diameter than a 9/16" bit.

What size end mill, or counterbore, or drill bit are you using to drill holes for pillars(Brownell's or any other supposedly 1/2" pillar)?

Said pillars are .565" diameter. 9/16" bit is .562" diameter if my math is right.

Also, how much room do you like to have around the pillars for fit, allowing for mud?

I thought I was the only one that did this. 9/16 drill then tap, 9/16 pillar fits every time for me. Wood, laminate, fiberglass, it's worked in all of them

Whose pillar, or what brand are you talking about?

Ernies Bed Heads will work with a 9/16", but Brownells won't.

Get whatever size counterbore you have pillar making stock in. Some use 1/2. I use 5/8 cause thats as big as i can get under the triggerguard and floorplates
