Doughnut????

I purchased the K&M carbide neck turner and in the instructions they refer to the doughnut a couple of times,Is this a bulge that sometimes grows around the neck or is it a build up of brass that occurs ?Please explain, and thanks in advance! Also, should I turn down to the shoulder transition-how far do I go?

boogershooter, The donut forms inside the case at the neck/shoulder junction. This will increase neck tension in that area and cause accuracy to go to the pot. When you turn your brass if you let your cutter cut into the shoulder just slightly, the donut will not appear. I believe Ken's instructions will say how much to cut into the shoulder. I don't have mine in front of me right now. Bill

EDIT The case prep article on the web-site here says to let it cut into the shoulder 1/32 of an inch. Just go easy and adjust a little at the time until you get a feel for the process.

I found the inside neck reamer the best for bullets. Also I only experienced them with the ULD bullets. Before I noticed them I seated a bullet into the donut and fired it in a tight necked chamber the pressures went THROUGH THE ROOF!!! Be carefull of this.
