dougas barrels

Do they offer a prefit?
I tried to maneuver through there quote, website got all weird.
Prefit to what?
Ship your action and have them chamber, contour, install and headspace. One stop shopping.
Anything other than a Savage has to be installed and head spaced by someone that knows the drill. ;)
The last one I did, I just sent the action with a CC #, told them what I wanted and waited for CHRISTMAS!!
But you'll have to remember, you're NOT the only person wanting work done. Custom gun builds are known to take a loooong time so be ready. A year+ isn't out of line for a GOOD gun builder. Doesn't cost anything to ask "how long". ;)

I still wonder about Douglas. If they are in the same league as Shilen, Hart, Kreiger, PacNor, Brux, Bartlein, etc. why don't we see them in NBRSA and IBS match reports? Yes, I know some aren't accurate in what they put down, but many are.

This is a good thread. Been curious about Douglass for awhile. I filled out a quote from, and never heard back from them for a price or anything.

in benchrest it seama to fallow the leaders.if joe smow is winning with a hart all the big matches then people tend to go that route i was to;d once.but they have been around like they say for many years.

From my reading (I wasn't there) Douglas has won a decent amount hardware back in the day. The real reason you don't hear anything regarding competitions on Douglas is that your top 3 barrel makers cater to and sponsor the shooting sports.

If for some reason Douglas, or a different maker not in the top 3 started an intensive marketing campaign to sponsor shooters and provide prizes in benchrest, PRS, and Fclass, you would see the barrels in the equipment lists and then hear more talk.

Personally I don't need or want to wait for one of the top 3 barrel makers if I was gonna rebarrel a non competition rifle. I think Douglas has picked their market and excells at it.

Also, as far as I can tell they are one of only a few barrel makers that will rebarrel your rifles action, full service. There are a couple others that do it. Shilen I think. Hart does it. Shilen has I think 4-5 month lead time. Hart has an 8 month or more.

it's my subjective opinion that Douglas is in the tier of barrel along with Hart, Shilen, and other excellent/top of the line button rifled barrels

I have a Douglas barrel on a custom match-grade M1-A that shoots really good. It is the only one I have owned. If my memory serves me correctly, they made the barrels for the Marine M40-A1 sniper rifles I shot back around 1980 while I served. They were all accurate.

The folks at Douglas can barrel your action for you and do a great job of it. They also probably have the fastest turn around time on it in the industry. They have been doing it for a very, very long time. No worries and great service. Still miss my old buddy, Stan.

There is probably well more accuracy to be had in proper gunsmithing than there is in the barrel maker. This does not mean that some barrel brands are not "typicaly" producing more accuracy but it should be noted that you should probaby be worrying more about you gunsmith than your blank. Additionally working up a load vs buying ammo off a shelf can make a world of difference in accuracy.
Douglas should be well above what would be needed for the average hunting rifle. Go for it and enjoy.
My .338 Win Mag. Custom Weatherby, MK-V would "Clover Leaf" 3, 210 grain Nosler Partitions at, 2,9 77 FPS out of My 25 1/2 inch, Douglas, Premium grade Barrel. Amazing Accuracy for, a "Big Bore" ,.. IMO !
T'was,.. a "Thumper" at,.. BOTH, Ends ! Rolled Deer and Elk, like Rabbits and, thankfully, I only needed to test shoot it, for POI changes, 3 shots, each year and,.. Go Hunting ! ( I didn't Practice much, in those Days with, IT ! )
Found that, a .270 WSM with, 140 Berger's going 3,200 FPS did just as "Good", as the .338, on Big Game !
Shoulder is Now,.. MUCH, Happier and I shoot it, ( Practice Field Positions ),.. a LOT !
I'd still BUY, a Douglas Today,.. if / WHEN, I need, another Barrel !

It isn’t a “quote”. It’s a form you fill out and print for yourself, then you call them and tell them what you want.

I have Krieger and Douglas. They are equal.

Incorrect brother. On the website after you fill all that information out, it has a button to click that says. "submit request." Why would you fill the form out and then call them? Seems rather redundant. You fill the form out and they give you a call, or you can call them after the form is filled out. That's what the webpages says.

Great Barrels and Customer Service.
As mentioned fill out the information that way it right in front of you when you are talking to them, best to call.
And they will make just about anything you want. Turn around time can be 2 weeks to 2 months. I have never waited more than 2 months. And like all the other Barrel makers, one might not perform well. But if you fallow their directions and brake in procedure, they are good for it.
If you want one for your hunting rig. Give them a call, you won't be disappointed.

A couple months before Stan passed I had him spin me a prefit in a 6.5x300 weatherby for a savage. It shots consistent nickel size groups at 200 yards. Which is pretty good for the profile he made me. (.600@26") So I would say Douglas bbls are good to go. Especially for a hunting gun.
