doubles and triples in the AR

I have observed a couple guys who's AR 15's doubled and triple fired by accident,. Besides less than minimum sear engagement is there some other cause like to much lube on the bolt etc. that causes this ?

The cause normally is a poor quality disconnect. The normal procedure to check it is to fire it empty and keep the trigger pulled, re charge the bcg while keeping the trigger depressed, let up on the trigger, there should be a audible click as the trigger re sets. If there isn't or it fires, you have a bad disconnect.

I've had it happen on a newly installed trigger - Geissele. I blasted some ether on it to clean it and re-oiled. Never had any more problems.

I had 2 guys next to me yesterday at the range shooting AR's with a binary trigger in them, all decked out with the bells and whistles.. His partner was shooting one also at the same time. He was spraying brass all over me. After the third good burst and he was empty, I turned to him and said..... All those gizmos and you don't have a brass catcher? They stopped and packed them up.

The A/R triggers that are prone to doubling (or more) occur mostly with the triggers that allow adjustment and when you go too far with the sear engagement - you will get it. I've done it with three different makes of triggers. From my experience - anytime you try to set well below two pounds in an A/R, you are risking doubles with any trigger due to recoil-induced jarring. At two and above - the recoil doesn't hamper as much.

I had an aftermarket trigger in my AR for about a week, and it doubled when set to the lower weight I was looking for (been quite a few years, so don't remember what I was hoping for). But it was rated for that lower trigger pull. So returned it to Brownells, and installed a 2 stage Jewell, which works well for low trigger pulls.

I had that issue with a Jewel trigger. I was shooting for group and squeezing the trigger very gently. The recoil was enough to reset the trigger and fire another shot. My groups weren’t very good and I went to a heavier trigger. It’s not fun when you don’t expect it.

I doubt it. Probably the trigger assembly has been modified. It's possible to get a 3 lb all stock trigger, have it function as a binary trigger or go full auto. Don't try modifying anything unless you know exactly what you are doing. Besides possibly being illegal, it can make the rifle very dangerous. Also there is a trigger adjuster that fits inside the handle that when inserted too far can cause firing issues. I run AR's wet without any problems. I wouldn't if I were in combat in a dusty environment.

I installed a CMMG .22lr conversion BCG in an AR. Went to the range to try it out. Loaded a 25 round mag and walked to the firing line. Just a test fire ,as everything is new. Aim,fire. Nothing.Work the BCG and hit the trigger. 10 rounds out, pulled the trig again 10 more.Looked around at the attention I was getting and decided to get a bolt action out for awhile. I think it was to much lube. I`ll find out after the monsoon passes.Anyone have a better reason? I would like to avoid prison if possible. Jeff

First thing I would check is the firing pin. Make sure it is free to move and not stuck forward.
