double grouping

i am doing something that is causing me to shoot consitent double groups 1 group is 1/4 inch low 1/2 inch right of the first 2 shots . i have shot many guns factory or customs still the same pattern. does any one have a clue

If you are shooting 5 shots, all five are referred to as the "group"... assuming that, then I am assuming you shoot two shots in one cluster and then the next 3 are lower and to the right of the first two shots... Patterns refer to shotguns...

it could be a number of things... if you are shooting from a cold clean barrel, it may take the first two shots to settle in...

What you would have to do is test it further...shooting separate 5 shot groups, numbering each shot... doing it with a fouled barrel, doing it with a clean barrel. Use a mirage deflector on top of the barrel...

Could be a number of things. But if you constantly get the same pattern at least you're consistent.

Are you using the same scope? Do you constantly adjust the optics, parallax or power?

Are you changing shoulder pressure on the rifle butt?

How about your hand position on the pistol grip?

Have you tried using a torque driver on all the screws.

I think either crown or scope, but leaning toward crown as this has been my experience in the past. Simple fix - re-crown.

BUT, eliminate the simple stuff first like scope parallax.

Hello Beagler,
It could be inconsistant trigger tecnique. In some cases, a group to the right of the other group can be caused by having to much finger on the trigger.

beagler, Take one of your rifles that has low recoil and set it up on your bags just as you always have. Shoot a 5 shot group from a clean cold barrel. Make sure your rifle is laying in the rest or bags the same every shot. Try to hold the rifle exactly the same way every shot. Same shoulder pressure, same hand position and pressure at the pistol grip, same finger position on the trigger, and shoot each shot in co-ordination with your breathing. I try to pull the trigger when at the end of taking a breath.,Full Exhale.) Now, if you had a flyer, try another group and keep practicing this method. I'm no BR shooter but this may help. Hope it does. Bill

Could be wind doping, trigger pressure, parallax, bag technique, flinch, cheek weld ....

Lots of variables that could be to blame. My buddy put it perfectly, "As my technique continues to improve, my guns magically get more accurate".

It sounds to me that your holding the gun tighter on the last three shots causing the gun to recoil different.try to free recoil a time or two just too see what the outcome is..

Had my corrective lens glasses do it to me once. I have bi-focals and the line, invisible) was in the wrong place for looking through scopes.

Another thing could be your sling swivel stud grabbing the sandbag.

In addition to about 1000 other things.... good luck!!

Here is something you cam try. On your target put a black dot to the left and high and move you bullet hit point to the center of your target. Now fire 5 shots at the black dot. Do not look at where the bullets are hitting, if you have a good you are chasing the bullet hole.
