It's finally cooled down and farmers are getting fields harvested too. Haven't been out chasing song dogs since beginning of June. Picked up 2 new farms to hunt, both farmers had contacted me, saying they are seeing several coyotes and want them thinned out. Always willing to help, i made plans after meeting up with both to get required permission to hunt forms. Meet up with my hunting buddy and we're off.
First farm setup is a pasture field that has not been used this year . Pasture has a couple small ponds with a small patch of trees around them. I setup under a large oak about 2hours after dark over looking the larger pond, I start with rodent distress and 30 seconds in we have a yote coming quickly from the pasture below the pond, i bark at 70 yards to stop it, but it's so focused on sound it takes 2 more times before it stops and i send a 110 grain 6.5 grendel controlled chaos round from my suppressed AR. Dog #1 down. Happened so fast my buddy didn't see yote until i shot. I change up call after couple minutes to another prey distress call. Couple minutes later i hear leaves rustling to my right, dog #2 stops for a second at 45 yards and another 6.5 round hits it mark, quickly change up call to distress puppy and 4 yotes go nuts, giving us alot of grief but no takers, we pick up dogs and head to next farm.

Farm #2
This farmer has had 4 yotes around the barns several times in past week. We walk between barns and search area before heading for corn stubble field next to us. We pass a small 8x10 shed and start down a small bank when i hear something take off from in front of us running in the corn stubble, quickly raise rifle and we have coyote racing for the hills. Good sign for the start of the hunt. We continue on out to the corner of a fence row 350 yards from barns looking down through the drainage water way of the field. Field raises to the left but up on top no good vantage point so we settle on end of drainage as it starts from fence row.
I set the call out 50 yards down water way and start rodent distress again, 45 seconds in scanning left i see yote running away, it had came up over rise to the left and busted us. As it stops towards the back of the field i change up call to see if it will come back in, after 20 seconds or so it starts to move and as i follow it i pickup another yote at the call and quickly send round it's way, first yote down. I go back to yote in rear of field and as i scan i see another coming our way quickly, after ranging it i see 4th one headed our way as well, it meets up with 3rd one and stands broadside at about 180 yards, i steady as best i can with my trigger stick monopod and send it. It's starts it's death spiral, #2 down, quickly go to pup distress and we another at 234 yards, i setup for shot 3 and have a jam, after that one moves off by the time i clear round, have another to right looking over hill, giving a head shot. Buddy and i shoot at about sometime and i get a click and he shoots over it. In all the excitement i didn't get round in. Hunting
