donut on outside of brass neck/shoulder

When resizing once-fired Winchester brand brass in .308 caliber, a donut looking bulge appears where the neck meets the shoulder. The donut encircles the case. I am using a Redding FL die. The donut is on the OUTSIDE of the case. I bought this brass new, so I know its history. Why is this donut happening?

John, I have some of Redding's F/L dies and I see that too. I don't actually think it is anything to worry about. As a matter of fact, I have adjust my F/L dies back away from the shellholder so as to not re-size but app. .150 of the neck and minimize the amount of brass movement. That will leave a false shoulder on the neck and cause the brass neck to fit more snug in the chamber. So far accuracy seems to improve with all that I have adjusted. This procedure is not proper with an auto rifle. I am refering to bolt guns only. I hope this helps. Bill

It's NOT a donut. You can't get a donut from a sizing die.

It is just a small part of the neck that the die didn't size.
