It looks like Google may open up this PayPal competing program sometime this month. A DigitalPoint Forum thread has more details.

Google to Add Payments in EBay Threat, Analyst Says,Update3) June 9, 2006 16:43 EDT -- Google Inc., the most-used Internet search engine, will start an online payment system this month that will challenge EBay Inc.'s PayPal and let Google offer more targeted ads, an analyst wrote.
The article seems to be from Bloomberg, but the thread creator did not cite the source. The thread also has a link to a Forbes article on the topic. Estimated arrival date of GBuy - Google Payments is June 28th.

Can't wait for this to happen!! Just hope it doesn't take as long as my ACTION,still waiting).

But 10s of thousands of us have...,at least) and paypal has been or is currently being sued in about every state in the country..

In addition many state's banking commissions are either suing them or contemplating it.

The act like a bank, smell like a bank but refuse to admit that they are a bank.... you're losing many of your rights that you'd have with a "bank"... that's what's led to most of the lawsuits.

www.paypalsucks.com is just one of many sites you should check out.

paypal does suck. I'll give you the latest example of how they screwed me. Guy makes a payment after winning one of my auctions. Two days later I ship the item. Two days after that, paypal takes the money out of my account and says that the account used to make payment was under investigation because of misuse. I contact the buyer through email and he says he was low on funds and that he has corrected the problem. Long story short, that was 3-4 months ago, his ebay account is closed and wont return emails. So my question for paypal is why do I take the hit when they approved the payment and then took it away. This was not an expensive item but in my judgment PAYPALSUCKS!!!

Well, it looks like push is coming to shove with PayPal. I received a notice on 4/9 that we are believed to be in violation of PayPal's terms of service. They prohibit sales of firearms, ammo, etc.

Well, I responded, on this site we use PayPal ONLY for voluntary donations. We do not sell any products at all, much less guns and ammo etc. We'll see if these guys can comprehend the difference between a donation button and a banner advertisement for a third party.

In the meantime, I've initiated a GearPay account. So far, I'm not particularly impressed. Testing it, I've found it's a lot more difficult to just go online and make a single payment with a credit card. I fear if we have to rely on GearPay alone, many potential donators would get fed up.

Paul,

It will get worse before it gets better with paypal. Be sure you keep your account as low as possible, and do not have it set up with a checking account that has any money in it either.

They have taken money from other firearms business as well.

Walker,

Update: Paypal accepted my "explanation" and they've re-activated our "approved" status. But I assume all it takes is one misleading email from an anti-gunner and we'll be faced with this again. I do try to transfer funds out as soon as possible.

Hopefully GearPay can upgrade its system soon. But it really only works seamlessly for people who already have a Gear-pay account with funds in it. PayPal is better in that respect--one can simply donate with a credit card and no sign-up or contributor verification is required.
