Don't ask often, but please help me decide...

Customer Service is what it's all about. If they won't back their product, the best isn't very good.

One of the high end scopes only has a 2 year warranty for the original owner.
Than what or what if you buy one used?

Very true Hal. That's one of the biggest hesitations I have with some of these high end optics. I hunt the high country for mule deer and elk and I am hard on my equipment. Not on purpose, but there's always a chance of taking a fall.

Nikon came out with a lifetime No Fault policy so that's one of the reasons why I picked up the Black X1000 scope. I've dealt with Nikon in the past before any of the No Fault warranties on a broken LRF and lost scope turret caps. Always top notch service.

Vortex is hands down the best customer service I've seen, but I'm not super crazy about their low light performance in the Viper scope line and the Razors are way too heavy or or have FFP reticles, which I hate.

Burris is another company with awesome customer service, but their glass in the new high magnification optics has gone to hell in a handbasket. Just awful.

I know Swarovski only guarantees manufacturer defects for life, but their customer service has a big reputation of going well beyond covering just the defects. Even though it's not in writing, I do have good confidence in their coverage.

I've dealt with Leica on defects in a set of Ultravid BR binos I had years ago (air pockets behind the lenses). Great service, fast work, got them fixed and back to me very quickly. But that warranty is limited and by no means covers incidentals.Though Leica has began to offer 3 years of No fault warranty coverage to the original owner with some if their high end stuff. So maybe that will evolve into something more.

Sig Sauer has No Fault policies on everything. Optics are pretty nice too, but I'm not crazy about the blue tint they have. Pretty pricey when you get up into their higher mag scopes as well and I don't think they are quite as special as the price tag suggests.

Leupold warranty has always been excellent, but I'm not crazy about the quality of glass you get for the money spent. Definitely NOT the best bang for your buck anymore.

Then there's the whining and complaining service reps at NightForce always trying to avoid blame...No thanks.

Like Ledd, I have also been using Nikon's BLACK X1000 6-24x50 MRAD Illuminated Reticle scope. I had the opportunity to get together witrh a friend who has the MOA version to bang steel at 700+ yards. The BLACK X1000 made the shooting pretty easy. Even watching the vaper trail across the canyon was easy to see. I had to use my scope on my CMMG AR .308 while I wait on my Bergara 6.5 CM's to show up. Then I'll transfer the scope and really enjoy some longrange shooting. I know there are all kinds of optic's expert's out there and many of us are tethered to a certain dollar amount we can spend on a scope. For a SFP,Illuminated Reticle,30mm tube and MRAD/MOA Turret/Reticle this scope has just about all you need for 1000 yard shooting. Best of all, max price is $649. At the end of the day, I just try to pass on info that might help someone find a scope they might not know about with features they can use, you still need to look down the tube to make sure it is the right fit for you.
