Does Anyone Own or Have Knowledge of a Winchester 1890 .22?

The rifle will not restrict feeding of cartridges from the magazine. The cartridges will not "wait their turn". Wants to feed them all at one time.

I've taken several apart for restorations. Theres not much to them. Carrier , spring, carrier lever and some pins, screws. The front of the carrier should look like this. Holds the next case in place while feeding current one.

Spitfire, My carrier looks like that. I went to the range today and had the same problem. On the carrier, the front "tang" that hangs down is part that holds the next cartridge in the tube. Is that correct? If so, mine measures .540". I am thinking it is too short. Is that a logical approach?

1890's are designed to fire specifically, .22 short, or .22long/ long rifle, or .22 WRF. You cannot run .22 short in a .22long or vice/versa. Be sure you are using the proper round for your rifle. That may be the problem. Hope this helps.

Check to see if spring for the carrier lifter is too long if it’s too long it won’t let the carrier bottom out all the way in causes problem feeding

The carrier was not going down far enough. When it goes up to deliver a cartridge to the chamber, it is too high. Thus, the retainer on the bottom does not go down far enough. I put a dab of JB Weld on the top of the receiver where the carrier reaches its full position. That kept it from going too high. This made it stop the next cartridge from flying out of the mag tube. May not be a permanent fix, but at least I know why it was not working.

Is your spring holding that carrier down. I was lifting it up in that photo. Should have a little spring pressure holding it down.
