Documenting a "blueprinting" job?

I have a customer that asked for "the blueprint" on a truing/rebarreling job I did on his stock R700 action. I have a document I downloaded from Brownells many years ago that I use as my own worksheet when I true up an action, and I keep this with my records along with any other notes, but I've never been asked by the customer for any documentation of such. I could give him a copy of my sheet, but it doesn't seem very professional. I was wondering what others do to document their process for the customer.

Maybe post up the original file for others to download?
I'm no gunsmith but I wonder how many actually measure the before and after measurements on that print you showed. I think a lot of guys do the truing and then just take their measurements they need to do the barrel job. And I wonder what measurements the guy actually wants. You could scan that document and fill in the dimensions. All you can do now is give him what you have. Really wonder where he is coming from.

Can a Remington really be blueprinted?
It can be trued .
When you blueprint a engine you have maximum over size tolerance.
Most Remington the threads aren't true to the bolt face . When you true the threads you would be oversize. From the Remington prints. Larry

"Most Remington the threads aren't true to the bolt face ."

And you know of this how? Is it something you have actually measured or just read about it?

To op
Why would it be unprofessional,I include all the info in a file I can get on every rifle I have built.

In my opinion blueprinting or trueing a Remington action will NOT make the factory barrel that came on it shoot tighter groups.. a new match grade barrel is the answer to improving accuracy..

I have limited experience with chambering barrels, and none truing actions. I am interested in gaining experience in truing actions. Are you suggesting action truing is an exercise in futility, or that action truing matters little, if any, with a bad barrel?
Not my intention to call anybody out. As I said, I know nothing of this. Just asking. If this constitutes thread drift, then I will start my own asking this very question. Thanks.

Isn't this just dimensions for headspacing and threading? Not what I was thinking of when 'blueprinting' or 'action truing' is discussed. But I am the first to admit I have -0- experience here, so please see this for what it is : I'm asking, not accusing.

My understanding of 'truing' and/or 'blueprinting' is to try and ensure that the centerline of the barrel bore is aligned and concentric with the centerline of the bolt, and the centerline of the bolt needs to be square to the bolt face. Yes/No?

It would seem there are many different opinions of how to best achieve this alignment, and just as many opinions about how much difference it makes.

True and I doubt many people do that especially if they have to pay someone to do it. I think most people true an action if they are putting on a good quality barrel to get the most out of the system.

I've never trued an action without including a new barrel. Granted, they are technically different jobs, but in my experience (which is admittedly limited), you can't call a Remington action trued without re-cutting the threads to line up with the bolt raceway, thereby necessitating a new barrel with over-sized threads. So far I've been lucky and all have cleaned up nicely by cutting to 1.080 (which is the only action thread gauge I have).

Yes, that is correct.. I don't believe truing an action with the original bad shooting barrel will make it shoot any better...

Op , don't you true / face the receiver lugs ? If so that should be shown how much and how much the top was off from the bottom or bottom from top . Also how much runout in exterior , i.e. How banana shaped it was .
Just a few things I noticed missing

Thanks. That's useful. I do true up the lugs while the action is dialed-in, but didn't think that info was relevant so I've never measured before/after.

Perhaps I should try a different tack. What would you guys, as gunsmiths, like to see on a report to indicate that the smith knew what he was doing?

Makes sense. No amount of polishing on a turd will make it smell like a rose, eh?
